Today we’d like to introduce you to Britany Chism, founder of Elemental Grooming, and her story below: Elemental Grooming began because of a dog. And, then a horse. Really it goes back a good bit further, but they were the spark. Britany grew up with a mother who believed in herbal remedies and letting the body heal itself naturally. Lotions and potions were just a part of daily life and remained that way into adulthood. Fast forward, and it was not long after Britany and her husband, Kyle, brought home their rescue dog, Kingston, that he dissolved into a pile of itchy canine. They tried everything and treated for everything from mange to allergies, and nothing worked. A vet even recommended steroids, but they didn’t feel it was the appropriate response, at least not yet. Finally, it occurred to Britany that perhaps it was simply seriously dry skin – and she proceeded to make a calming shampoo, and a spray conditioner with essentials oils. Kingston’s skin cleared up in a week, and he hasn’t had trouble since. Then, in late 2020, Britany purchased an Off-the-Track-Thoroughbred, Kittie, and it was a natural progression into creating a line of goods for her too. The word got out, and suddenly there were customers. She works with a handful of athletes, and sponsors them with product – one of these, is the talented Ryleigh Leavitt, a 4* Event Rider, and her horse, Cruz. Britany intends to keep the business small and focused on creating quality, healthy tools to keep dogs and horses (and the occasional human), looking and feeling their best. The best part is getting to know even more of the local community and playing a role in the wellness of so many creatures. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road? Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on? It has been a bit of a circuitous path to get here – you might already be thinking, how does one jump from event production into grooming products – just to make it even more random, I’m also the person who runs my company’s entire technology and platforms infrastructure, including our database. What it does have in common is precision and organization. The roles I’ve had over the years have done a lot to build the skills to start and run Elemental. As a result, it was fairly easy to build a small technology structure so I can spend my limited time on the important things – product development, testing those products on my own animals, and getting out into the community. That very community has supported this leap of faith, and have given me countless ideas for new products, told their friends, and just cheered me on in general. It’s with that support that it continues to grow. This year, I’m focused on taking the business to the next level. It’s already started with getting the Elemental Hoof Oil retail ready – its now sporting redesigned branding and my hope is the rest of the product line will follow over the next several months. From there, I’d like to get the products in more small business retailers across the country, so we can reach more horse and dog enthusiast looking for natural grooming alternatives. What do you like and dislike about the city?
Having grown up here, I’ve always been incredibly impressed by how much there is to do. I’ve always had several hobbies and passions, and there are few places that make both easy to accommodate. I could be snowboarding in the morning, and on my horse by the afternoon. Not to mention that view… not too shabby. And, can we talk about the food? Throw a rock and you’ll hit something good. We’re lucky. There’s not much about it I don’t like, I could do without the traffic, but don’t we all say that? Contact Info: |
