Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynn Swanson.
Hi Brynn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in weddings and events started when planning my own wedding. I assembled a dream team of vendors for my own wedding and once the vows were said, my caterer asked if I would consider working for them. I left a career in PR to jump into events and the rest, as they say, is history. From there I learned the industry from the back of the house to the front of the house, working for eight years before launching First Look Events. Since founding First Look Events, we have planned hundreds of celebrations and been featured Nationally in Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides Magazine, and The Knot. We have been featured locally in Rocky Mountain Bride, Couture Colorado, Green Wedding Shoes, and Style Me Pretty.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you are an Entrepreneur, I don’t think the road is ever smooth, I think it is an ever-changing landscape that you have to learn to navigate. When I went out on my own the biggest hurdle for me was not getting business, I had been in the industry for eight years and many creative partners referred me right off the bat. My largest hurdle was learning my own value and learning to say no, which to be honest I am still working on today. Over the years I have learned that not every client is the right fit for me, turning down work is a hard thing to do, but in the end, it has allowed me to focus on my passion which is creating an amazing design and seamless event experience for my clients. Most recently covid has been an epic hurdle, my day-to-day responsibilities turned from creating beautiful events to telling clients that they had to cancel and reschedule their big day. The past three years have made me a stronger business person and have reaffirmed my love for our industry and the clients that we have the pleasure to work with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in curating events that are thoughtfully designed around each client’s individual story and style. We love finding extraordinary inspiration in the most unlikely places. Other creatives have spectacular events but what sets us apart is that we push the boundaries of design and executing new and innovative concepts. From a client perspective, the client experience is at the heart of everything we do, our clients see us as a voice of reason, a valued resource, a creative genius, a style guru, and their advocate from start to finish.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
As a planner, I always want to have things planned down to the minute and be in control of all things. The past three years have taught me what I always tell my clients, things out of your control will happen and you just have to roll with the punches. It is great to have a plan but the ability to pivot and think on your feet is a fundamental skill that every business owner should have.
