Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Coulon.
Hi Catherine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We started Evergreen Skateparks in 2011. We felt something was missing from our industry and wanted to provide work for other like-minded people. 11 years later, we are committed to designing and building the best skateparks in the world. We have built over 85 skateparks!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has been nothing ‘smooth’ about our business except our concrete 😉 There are constant challenges and managing the expectations of staff and people are some of the most challenging. There have been a lot of ups and downs but we have always evolved and we find ourselves in a very good place today doing the kind of work we have always dreamed of.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We design and build concrete skateparks. We want our parks to be inviting for beginners but also fun and challenging for all skill levels. Another important aspect of our craft is an appreciation for aesthetics. We want everything we build to be beautiful and enhance the natural surroundings. Our skateparks look and skate differently from other parks- this is no accident. We tweak over every square inch to make sure we are providing the best riding experience for the users.
How do you think about luck?
We have worked extremely hard to get to where we are so it’s hard to call it luck. However, we have been ‘lucky’ to partner with some great organizations- Montana Pool Service Foundation and Montana Skatepark Association. They have allowed us a great deal of creative freedom which has helped us to grow and do quality work.
