Daily Inspiration: Meet Charlize Delenn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlize Delenn.

Hi Charlize, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I was born and raised just outside of Denver on September 11, 2001. A pretty tough day and because of that I’ve always felt like I was meant to do something to inspire people or cause change. in my opinion movies and the things we watch are one of the best ways to make people think and feel in unique ways. From a young age I always loved acting and entertaining people by putting on mini fashion shows or choreographing my own dances to show family. I started dance lessons as a toddler, then added theater to my hobbies as a teenager. In high school I changed my focus more to just theater, realizing that acting was my main passion. I also stared modeling around then since Denver doesn’t have much of an acting market. I walked in some fashion shows like Denver Fashion Week and Parker Fashion Week a few times. I went to collage for film in Colorado and now have an Associates Degree in Acting and Directing. In school along with acting in several student films I found a love for the art team and set design. Probably because of my love for theater and working on sets and doing costumes and makeup for that. After graduating Film School I have continued to act in feature films, short films, and commercials. I also work as an art director and art assistant for local production companies commercials.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think anything you really want to achieve has a smooth road towards it. With wanting to be an actor comes a lot of self tapes/auditions and then silence or rejection. Which can be hard on your mental health but you can’t take it personally. You have to take classes, get headshots, and make connections which can sometimes be a monetary challenge. Also juggling a day job and pursuing my passion at the same time comes with the occasional long days of working and then going to set or the other way around, which can be a challenge physically but honestly, I kinda love it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actress, my favorite genres are drama and horror and my most recent works include Love Pills and a Pistol a short film by Terrell Lamont, and Field of Screams a feature film by Alix Moad and Evan Runkle. Both of these films I am incredibly proud of. The teams worked so hard to bring their vision to life and it was amazing to be a part of it. I love working in creatively collaborative environments. I’m a hard worker and dedicated to the craft no mater what position I have on set.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being able to tell stories in a supportive, safe environment. With that comes teamwork, communication, and observation. Its always important to feel safe and supported especially when as an actor you put yourself in a more vulnerable state for some roles, and when you are doing stunts. But just in general too.
