Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Moore
Hi Christine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started long ago when I attended my first yoga sessions in grade school in the 60’s. I was hooked and dabbled in yoga asanas along with dance most of my life. Movement and philosophy and self improvement are what make me feel alive and how I contribute to the world as my Dharma, my calling. Eventually the call to the vastness of all that is yoga offers beyond asana began to seep in more and more.
My yoga story branched into teaching interest about 16 years ago when I became aware of all the adaptable, trauma informed and yoga specific to under served communities that was changing peoples lives and improving well being. I strive to be a guide in helping people access their best self.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I currently live in a community where the value of expanded yoga training in yoga is a bit unknown. I live in rural Colorado and came here from the front range where this is completely different, night and day. . Not only do many people not seem to know as much about yoga, aside from asana, but a lot of folks, not all, teaching as hobby instructors, not full time devotees. Some do not appear to uphold certifications. This can “dumb down” the incredible depth of yoga teachings and many in community may not truly grasp yoga other than exercise or value it.
As a yoga therapist, and currently the only one certified as such in Mesa county, it is a huge challenge introducing yoga therapy as well as yoga, outside the realm of exercise. Adaptation is key in being successful, and I have become satisfied with reaching those seeking, which takes time and patience and is an uphill climb.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My experience of yoga has expanded dramatically after going on a pilgrimage in India this year. Being in India enriched my ability to story tell with a depth of understanding through experience, which cannot be duplicated or taught any other way. When you get to wake up near a sacred river and watch people make offerings to the rivers and to the sacred trees, the rhythms of mantra constant, deep connection to nature, then the grace of fully embodying practice is felt so deeply. It is remarkable and inspiring. Yoga is a way of life, not something we do once a week. This really becomes an experienced awareness in India, changing life forever forward with eyes more wide open. For me it was important to make the journey with people who have lived in the culture, taking us to many scared pilgrimage spots. This was not a vacation to India, but as one fellow traveler put it, a spiritual water boarding. Not for everyone, but I loved it!!
With my yoga therapy hat on, I work with veterans and cancer survivors as well as people with specific injuries in private sessions.
I offer group practices as well as privates in my home. In this area I am known for patience, ease and offering choices for students to feel safe in their bodies and expand their minds as well as physical abilities, soothing and calming the nervous system. I like to offer some simple techniques to provide tools for the tool box that clients can turn to again and again on and off the mat.
When I put on another hat, I am known for my story telling and Sister Circles where we come together in community and support each other while learning about the Goddesses of India. There the many stories that sustainably enhance our own gifts and help us to better understand ourselves and discover personal growth, doorways to alignment with nature, attunement with purpose. Goddess and vedic stories offers us possibilities hidden in plain sight in our past and present
to reclaim a peaceful and global existence here on Earth. Earth and nature and even inner awareness of our own divine nature are embodied to make life richer, deeper. There are so many gifts just wanting to be revealed from within, this is one doorway.
These are offered on Zoom so anyone anywhere can attend.
With another hat, I am a certified yoga nidra teacher and love to offer this amazing and transformative journey, combined with yoga sessions or on its own.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
