Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyndi Marlowe.
Hi Cyndi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
In 1971, Rod Stewart released his album “Every Picture Tells a Story”. You could endlessly hear it playing on turntables in my dorm at Ohio State University. I was a fine arts and art history major. My superpower was and still is framing images in my head. I utilized that power to begin a career in Interior Design in Columbus, Ohio.
In 1980, I made my first trip west of the Mississippi. The destination was Colorado. I can still vividly remember coming over Rabbit Ears Pass, heading down to the town of Steamboat Springs, and feeling as if I was in the middle of a postcard. I began to carry a camera with me, everywhere. Always dropping off cans of film at the local Photo House.
I bought an art gallery at the base of the ski mountain, sold other photographer’s work, and still doing interior design I would occasionally show a friend or a client one of my photos from a recent ski or hike. One friend responded, ” This is a great image, but every picture needs to tell a story.”
As I continue to grow as a photographer in my 70th year, my focus is on landscape and the beauty of where I still live in Steamboat Springs. My favorite pieces are large canvases and I am fortunate to have them in hotels, condominiums, and private residences in Steamboat as well as other parts of the country.
This is a dream come true for me, grateful to share my work and my stories.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been photographing Steamboat Springs and the surrounding area for over 40 years. Canvases printed with my images hang in hotels, condominiums, and homes throughout Steamboat and in many other parts of the country.
Some of the images go back to when I first arrived in Steamboat as a 20-something. I’m always amazed when I enter a room that has one of my pieces hanging on the wall that dates back decades.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Nikon cameras and Adobe software are long-time partners in my photography life.
