Daily Inspiration: Meet Deborah Fryer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Fryer

Hi Deborah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thirty years ago, I had a vivid dream in which my hands feel like pincushions with thousands of straight pins sticking into me.

The pain is intense. I look at my palms. They are covered with thousands of tiny black spots, like ground pepper. The spots grow and multiply before my eyes. The burning intensifies. Then the black spots turn green as baby buds poke through the pink my palms and the bud blossom into leaves and flowers until I am holding a vibrant bouquet in my hands.

I woke up with a smile on my face. I know I am holding my creativity in my hands. I know my hands are the source of my creativity, and it is time to let myself bud, flower and bloom.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The problem with a vivid, visceral dream like this is that it does not disappear when you wake up, like other dreams are wont to flee. The challenge with awakening this intensity of feeling and creative passion in every cell of your being is that it will not let you go.

This dream followed me around at my humdrum job. It followed me to the grocery store. It followed me into the bathroom. It followed me into bed at night. It followed me everywhere, like a needy puppy, wanting my attention.
I wanted to create art, but there was a loud voice inside who harangued me for years.
You can’t do that.
No one will buy that.
You’re a starving artist and that’s all you’ll ever be,
You can’t be spiritual and rich.
The problem with indulging these voices is they will shout you down and demoralize you, if you let them. The good news is that a creative person, you have a superpower in your pocket to disarm these wet blankets. It’s your creativity. Your creativity can reframe, rewrite, restore, renew, refresh and regenerate anything, anytime, anywhere. You have an infinite supply of it.
When you have a negative thought, you’re using your creativity to create negative thoughts. What else can you create with your creativity?
Many people tell me they wish they were more creative. The Truth is that every cell of you is creative. Your body is creating new cells 24/7. You are streaming thoughts and ideas 24/7. Your hair is growing, your fingernails are growing, your stem cells are growing into eyes and bone and blood while you are telling yourself that you’re not creative.
The problem with thinking you’re not creative, or thinking you don’t have the time or the resources to be creative, is that this is a diss to your SOUL. There’s no part of you that is NOT creative. You are always creating yourself anew with every breath. You are not the same person now you were five minutes ago.
We have been conditioned to fear growth and change … and we think that creativity equals growth, so we are afraid of it on some level. We are afraid of being too much, too bold, too loud, too messy… so we button that up and pretend to be ok with NOT being creative. It’s a denial of Self. Your Soul will not tolerate this for very long — or rather, it will be very patient, for a very long time, and then there will come a day when everything breaks. You’ve had enough,
This is how it happened for me and it’s how breakthroughs happen for all my clients. They get to place of being done tolerating lives they hate and they have no choice but to create a life they love.
We have been conditioned to see growth as linear, above the line results, proof, achievement. We completely miss that the fruits that we can see are a small fraction of the creation cycle.

The dream I had of feeling the prickles of creativity arising showed me that creativity comes from within before it expresses itself without. It is Life Force streaming to you and through you and for you, and the more you open to receive it, the more it flows your way. It is you.
The creative cycle is a cycle, not a goal or a destination. We are never done. We never arrive. As Creators, we live in the now… and now… and now. As Life Force moves through you, you feel the consistent churning and turning and burning, as you make your way from seed to bud to leaf to flower to decay to compost and back to seed.
One of the problems with focussing on results, or performance, or goals, is that we miss all the other stages of creativity that are just as important, and just as much fun, as that stage we are used to associating with being creative.
The generative phase of creation is like weeding your garden, amending the soil, preparing to plant seeds for what you want to grow. There’s nothing there yet. You are ripe with potential. You anticipate what’s to come, fully expecting it to bear fruit. You water your garden every day, you work your plot, so to speak. You are consciously tilling and telling the story you want to till and to tell.

The organizing phase of creation is like Adam and Eve walking around Eden, admiring all the fruits and flowers, naming everything, recognizing the uniqueness of each beautiful fruit and flower, delighting in the succulence and juiciness of life. The perfect summer day, the ripest peach, the tenderest first kiss holds a tinge of bittersweetness because we know this exquisite pleasure will not last forever. We want to hold onto it as long as we can.
The destroying phase of creation is just as beautiful as the first two stage, and it gets a bad rap. “If you wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down,” writes Toni Morrison in Song of Solomon.
She’s speaking of the letting go phase of creation. The snake has to release its old skin to grow into the next version of itself. You want to make an omelette, you have to crack some eggs. You want to be an artist, you’re going to have to get good with making a mess, with not knowing how it’s going to turn out, with letting go of what you think you know so you can create from the unknown. This is where the magic and the mystery happens — in the unknown, messy, chaotic void of formlessness.

The problem with saying “I’m not creative” or “I don’t have time to be creative” is that it’s a lie. You are creating and destroying all day long, building up and tearing down all day long. When you realize that everything is included in this cycle, you open the cage you’ve locked yourself in and you set yourself free.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I help entrepreneurs, creatives and visionary leaders tap into their inner authority, intuition and gut wisdom so they become more confident, creative, calm and clear.

My signature Anatomy of Money system blends ancient wisdom, modern neuroscience, integrative mind-body processes, and timeless business strategies that accelerate ease, abundance, freedom and flow.

I have helped thousands of business owners upgrade their mindsets, elevate their income, rewire their nervous systems and reclaim the divine feminine power of infinite potential, creativity and wealth.

When you feel safe and secure being YOU, you naturally begin to experience greater physical, emotional, financial, creative and spiritual freedom than you ever “thought” possible.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Through my dreams over the years, I have learned that the precious gems I carry, the power tools in my hands, the source of my wealth and well-being is my creativity. Creativity is my connection to Source, and it’s yours, too.

In the painting Power Tools, I have created a symbolic representation of the invisible medicine I carry. It is healing balm. You can have as much as you like, whenever you like. Each one of us carries sacred medicine that is for the benefit of all. We may uniquely self-expressed, and we are all drinking from the same stream, nourished by the same air.

Voice, represented by the singing of the bird and the whispering of the trees, reminds me it is safe to speak, to sing, to whisper, to be heard. I have something valuable to say, and so do you. My voice is unique and beautiful, and so is yours.

There is space for me and you, just as there is space for all the birds to sing and the leaves to whisper in the wind. Nature always finds a way to include all her creatures. There is room for each one of us to add our voice to the symphony of life.

Pencil. My word is my wand, My words create my world. I value communication. With a pencil I can create (with the lead end) and uncreate (with the eraser end). I add and subtract. This is the energy of creation itself.

Paintbrush. I paint the world I want to live in with color, symbol, darkness and light, abstraction and form. This is my playground, my laboratory where I discover and reclaim and become more of myself. Spirit eats beauty.

Candle Flame. My light pierces the darkness, sees through the illusion. I am shining the light of consciousness, allowing myself to radiate and be brilliant.

Sunflower. Worlds within worlds, regenerative, strong, grounded, versatile, always turning towards the light. In the center of the sunflower is the world.

Each of us carries the world inside ourselves. The seeds at the center are the seeds of future generations. It is up to us to nurture these seeds within ourselves, and to water them and weed them and tend them with love so they will bear fruit for future generations.

Roots. We share one root system, we share one water system, we share one Earth. Our roots are intertwined and interconnected, We support each other, and so, we are supported, Our togetherness, our community is our the
safety net. We all want to be loved, to be heard, to be valued, to be celebrated. Let us link arms and support each other, like these roots.
