Daily Inspiration: Meet DEF davyne & King Delane

Today we’d like to introduce you to DEF davyne & King Delane.

Hi DEF & King, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
(DEF davyne) – Growing up on similar music in the 90s laid the foundation for our eventual collaborative effort.

Although originally from different parts of the west coast, Oregon is our home base. Seeing many artists come and go in our region made us both respect each other’s longevity and work ethic. After releasing a few songs that resonated well with our individual fanbases, we realized working on a full project together was a wise move for both of us.

(King Delane) – We’ve known each other for years. Did some collaborations and shows together in the past and we just clicked. Because we meshed so well together, we started doing shows together all over our region. Eventually, we had so many popular songs together that it made sense to become a duo. We’re completely the same but completely different at the same time. So the creative energy is effortless.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
(DEF davyne) – Going on our first tour together was epic. It was an experience that taught us a lot and exposed us to new fans and media outlets like Voyage Denver. We felt blessed to hit the stage in so many cities across the country, but it was a lot of work though. Every show we gave it our all through any mishaps, and connected with the different crowds. We even survived getting sick, and our vehicle having issues 2,000 miles away from home. After that national tour, our regional tour with Afroman a few months later seemed effortless.

(King Delane) – I mean nothing is ever easy, so there are always bumps in the road. We’ve invested in songs we thought would be popular and really never took off. But we also had songs we didn’t invest much into and are some of our most popular songs. You really never know what the fans want to be honest. We may think we have the biggest thing about to drop until we see how the fans respond to it. But we’re always resilient no matter what.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
(DEF davyne) – In every city we’ve performed in, fans always let us know how well we work together. From our vibe and presence to our professionalism and song selections, we have found a balance that brings out the best in each other. With a golden era lyrical style over modern bass-heavy beats, our sound had been well received ever since our first project. Outside of music, we are both about our business as well. Practicing quality over quantity has taken us far, and we are excited to level up again this year.

(King Delane) – Music is a passion. We both share that love, and when we get on stage or in the studio together the chemistry shows. We really have a solid foundation that we laid down. We’ve performed with so many known artists and were blessed with the chance to share with their fans. And we’ve recorded songs with some artists I was really pleased to work with like Millyz, Derek King, and Layzie Bone. The sky’s the limit from here.
