Today we’d like to introduce you to Delcy Albertini.
Hi Delcy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It’s my pleasure! Thank you for allowing me to share my story, which is basically, telling everyone that it took me ONLY 30 + years to finally become who I wanted to be when I was a child.
At the age of 8 or so, I did a drawing of my dream house… on a plain piece of paper and according to my silly mind: I did follow all the right apertures, structures, and whatever other elements that a house plan could consist of. Thanks to my mother who saved the sketch and 40 years later; is now hanging on my office wall, as a reminder of resilience.
Being originally from Paraguay, persuading the career of Architecture wasn’t even an option, due to my family economic situation or/nor to mention the elevated cost of scholarship back then as well. I did attend Business Administration and then moved to New York, where I lived for almost 20 years and worked in the field of Corporate Administration, but deep inside of me, I always knew that my true passion was interior design and architecture.
Driven and surrounded by art, however, it was only until work sent me to numerous places around Asia, Central America, Europe, and South America, that I’ve found myself sourcing and learning about craftmanship and artisans; that I decided to use my passion (for design, architecture, art and the human narrative) that it evolved into a profession.
I studied photography and interior design at NYIAD (New York Institute of Art and Design) always bought and read tons of books, while having infinite opened tabs on my computer about everything related to design, art, timeless pieces, and unique furniture (needless to mention I’ve styled many of my friend’s homes and the houses of my friend’s friends).
In 2019 ETIQUETA NEGRA Studio was officially born, with just a few styling projects in my hands at that moment; and yet fully committed to the artisan people I’ve met (to whom I promised during my last visit that I would keep ordering their unique pieces for my “future projects”: At this point, it was just a dream with no income nor profit whatsoever (… AND in the middle of a global pandemic!! Obviously, I started questioning myself: “How did I get myself into such a commitment? and Why?” … but when my very first container arrived, I knew it was worth it).
I’ve reached out to every single designer and architecture firm (not just in my area but worldwide) with endless Zoom meetings, plenty of phone conversations, and numerous emails trying to convince people, the unique and beautiful pieces that it could be done for their clients: Slowly, very slowly.. a couple of projects came my way and another full container started to be loaded. Soon, more and more time was mandatory to invest in my business, adding family members as full-time employees and expanding the studio to South America (Paraguay), with the hopes of gradually expanding to other markets.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Since we now live in a fast-changing tech generation and a society that loves instant gratification, symmetry, and pursuit of perfection; my goal and biggest challenge, is to show people that sometimes we fail to appreciate the simple ruggedness of nature, if we see things from this perspective, we can value all creations, and use them in life to achieve peace and contentment in our homes; realizing that most things worth waiting for, are worth waiting for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
In 1993, I attended high school through a student exchange in Colorado Springs,
Having the opportunity to have lived in Colorado surrounded by nature, mountains and cherished folks has been part of my inspirational journey to design. With some projects in Aspen, the least fun part has been dealing with the logistics part of bringing some of my sculptures up to the valleys; but other than that: Colorado is always home to me.
