Today we’d like to introduce you to Elliot Weber.
Hi Elliot, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started performing stand-up comedy in 2016 when I was a student at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Durango has a fantastic comedy scene with locally produced open mics, comedy showcases, and now an annual comedy festival. In 2018 I teamed up with Joshua Emerson and Jacob Jonas, Fort Lewis Alumni, and stand-up comedians. We moved to Denver, Colorado, forming a production comedy, DeadRoom Comedy. Within a year, we added Jeff Stonic to our team, and we’ve been producing comedy shows all over Colorado since 2019.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road in comedy, but that makes it enjoyable. The process is about being willing to try things and adapting from failure to be successful. The process is trial and error, from writing jokes to producing shows. For example, you write a joke, try it out at an open mic and find out it’s terrible. Then it’s back to the drawing board, rewrite it, and figure out how to get a laugh from the audience. Running comedy shows is the same way. We’ve tried a Thursday night showcase, not realizing that the audience wants to watch the game during football season, not hear your jokes.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
As a stand-up comedian, I draw my material from my life, and I talk mostly about my family, relationships, and career. Then try to extrapolate my experience so it’s relatable to the audience. Everyone has had a shitty boss, struggled to maintain meaningful relationships, and has a crazy family member. My goal is to make you laugh at the examples in my life that are genuinely similar to yours. Additionally, I’m bisexual, so I’ve found a unique perspective regarding sexuality that’s important to express on stage.
As DeadRoom Comedy, we try to innovate with our live shows by making them unique or thematic. Jeff Stonic created the Bi-Agenda, which is a show focused on sexuality. We also toured our live show Dead Inside, a multimedia experience consisting of stand-up comedy, poetry, pre-recorded sketches, and live sketches. All focused on laughing at the problematic aspects of life, making the audience laugh about what made us cry shows that life is hard and worth enjoying.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
