Today we’d like to introduce you to Elsa Krieg.
Elsa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story probably starts out like a lot of entrepreneurs by taking a big leap of faith way outside my comfort zone. I attended a business retreat hosted by one of the most amazing women entrepreneurs I know, Anna Frentress aka Hooked AF. I attended her retreat, with the intention of learning everything I could about business and how it applied to the job I had at the time. By the end of the retreat I learned that I wanted to be my own boss and have my own business. The question was, what the heck was I going to do?
I was fortunate enough to connect with a photographer at the retreat who let me shadow her. After that I was introduced to my now mentor Tony Clapp of Tony Clapp Photography. He took me under his wing and taught me so much about photography and business. I had the pleasure assisting him on a variety of shoots which only intrigued me even more to pursue the path of becoming a photographer. A short time later I had purchased my first camera and lens and Lonesome Dove Photography was born!
Fast forward to a year later, and Lonesome Dove Photography is more than I could have ever hoped it would be. I have been fortunate enough to have a fabulous mentor to guide and teach me along the way, as well as connect with photographers all over the world who have cheered me on and supported me through this journey. The people I have to thank the most are my amazing clients. They all took a chance hiring me with less experience than most but trusted me to capture and tell their story and I am forever grateful for each and every one of them!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to becoming an entrepreneur is full of nothing but struggles and challenges, but I would not trade a single second. The biggest challenge I faced was teaching myself how to operate my camera and learn photography with zero knowledge or experience going into it.
The other struggle that I faced is comparing my work to others. It’s hard not to compare when you see others’ work and think that their editing style might be better or more unique or that their skill set is stronger. At the end of the day, your photos are your art. They are your creative outlet in how you see people and the world around them.
Your style, your niche, and your vision are yours.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My goal as a photographer is to capture and tell your story. I love capturing the essence of the west through portraits, couples, and the western way of life. Portraits and couples are by far my absolute favorite things to capture. I love watching people come alive and gain confidence in front of the lens.
I really enjoy creating a special moment for my couples and capturing the beauty of their love and the deep connection they share with one another. Not only will you walk away with wonderful memories preserved in photos, but you’ll also walk away with a core memory you can cherish forever.
What are your plans for the future?
I am really looking forward to taking my photography and business to the next level this year.
After spending the last year experiencing and getting an opportunity to capture all types of sessions, I want to create a focus specifically on portraits and couples, and find some fun and unique opportunities within that!
