Daily Inspiration: Meet Elycia Hage-Ali

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elycia Hage-Ali.

Hi Elycia, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to help alleviate a little pain and suffering from this world but did not know the ways in which I could do so. About seven years ago, I received my yoga teacher certification in Spain. It opened up an entire new way of helping people come back to themselves and I wanted to learn more, to offer more modalities of healing to the world. I enrolled in the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy where I studied Neuromuscular Therapy. That’s where it all shifted for me. Healing with my hands felt so intuitive like it’s what I was meant to do in such an instinctual way. I started working at a pain management office where I helped people who had workplace injuries manage the chronic pain they experienced. I then took a year off to travel around the country in my converted shuttle bus where I worked at a resort nestled right along the Yosemite Valley. I fell in love with rock climbing yet massage was still the thing I was meant to do the most in this earth so I found a way to make the combining of two disciplines that are very intensive on the hands more sustainable, I found ashiatsu. Once I started receiving ashiatsu massage, it was more than just a means to save my hands. It was the most incredible and therapeutic massage I have ever received. I could give my clients everything I could with my hands and more but with my feet. I began taking trainings through Center of Barefoot Massage and have never turned back. All of my clients fell in love with this new modality I began to offer and I decided to dive all in. I moved my practice to Denver, continue to seek out different barefoot massage trainings, and still am reminded of how much I love this work every single day when I witness my client’s ability to move and groove to life more at ease and with less pain.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Picking up my business and moving to Denver was incredibly intimidating. I moved away from my security blanket and to a rather competitive market. Yet the support I’ve experienced out here has been quite remarkable.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialized in a modality of massage called ashiatsu, specially FasciAshi massage. This is a myofascial release technique where therapist uses their feet to apply slow, deep pressure to the soft tissue. Since the therapist is above the client when applying the pressure, we are working with the natural force of gravity and able to apply a smoother, more consistent pressure. I utilize my experience with neuromuscular therapy and medical/sports massage interwoven with ashiatsu modalities to create both an incredibly therapeutic jet relaxing experience in a calming environment.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as creating a specific craft that enables you to give back to the world in a distinctive way that nobody can offer quite the same. Then, developing the initiative and expertise to hone in on said craft, make it adaptive and unique to your life so you still have the time and energy to prioritize the hobbies, art, and people that fulfill you.
