Daily Inspiration: Meet Eric Gandee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Gandee.

Hi Eric, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a kid, I loved music, all music. There wasn’t a genre I didn’t at least appreciate. In my eyes even to this day music is the most important part to me. I always knew I wanted to make music as an adult whether it was rap, country, orchestra, anything really. Over the years as I went through life I gravitated to rap music. At the age of about eleven, I taught myself how to play the clarinet, guitar, and saxophone. I was to the point where I started writing my own music. At the age of 12, I was writing full songs and rapping for my friends. I became well known in the school for the lyricism and storytelling my lyrics possessed. I soon started releasing my music under the account jiggity on SoundCloud. I was popping off, my streams were going up by the minute. I later stopped releasing under that account and moved to Eric James in 2021 and started my group “4K” and started rapping for a better purpose fighting against the issues I had to grow up with like domestic violence, abuse, and alcohol abuse. To this day Eric James and 4K are still unsigned and trying to get signed to a record label.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled a lot coming up in the music scene especially because I started at such a young age. Everyone thought I was doing music for fun or on the side and no one took me seriously when I said this was my career. It wasn’t until I won the coast-to-coast live artist showcase that I was taken seriously and was allowed opportunities.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a musician. I shine when it comes to writing, I can write a song in 20 minutes if need be. My music is lyrical and is similar to an artist I grew up listening to. Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, Nas, AZ, Big L, and more.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years I see Eric James and 4K as one of the biggest artist and music groups to ever exist, especially because not only is my music pleasing to listen to, but also has a meaning behind it.
