Daily Inspiration: Meet Evening Bass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evening Bass.

Hi Evening, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was lucky enough to grow up in Hawai’i for most of my childhood. Dancing Hula, Tahitian, and various Polynesian dances were my passion during my childhood into my teen years. Sprinkled throughout were various plays and musicals. In high school I continued performing arts and my passion for musicals. Throughout my entire life music has been a passion. I was use to expressing it through dance but I also was the friend who was always asked to play music at the function. There was always a feeling of wanting to make music but I never clicked with any instruments (other than the guitar and piano for a little while). The moment I watched Pitch Perfect in theaters and saw Becca DJ, I completely fell in love with it.

Many years later, post-pandemic, I fell deeply in love with EDM and raves. I was getting out of a bad relationship and became good friends with someone who is a huge music connoisseur. They know everything about many different genres and have a bunch of cool DJ and production equipment. I got to go to so many shows with them and they taught me so much about DJing. They opened the door to the EDM world and once I stepped through I’ve never looked back.

In 2023 I finally bought a deck and once I started I haven’t stopped. I have the Pioneer XDJ-RR and really wanna upgrade to the Pioneer XDJ-AZ. Free-styling with different genres, bpms, and artists is one of my favorite things to do. I also enjoy a good back-to-back. I love bass music and dubstep and want to incorporate rap/hip-hop. From the percussion in the multi-cultural dances to the choir and crowd energy on a musical stage to now dubstep, I think I’ve always resonated with lower frequencies and polyrhythmic patterns.

In terms of production, I’ve been producing for a little over a year and I’m working on skill and consistency. I’m pretty comfortable with Ableton, it use to stress me out just opening the software. I’ve made a lot of progress and I’m proud of where I am. I just wanna make banging bass music and build a really cool community of like-minded people along the way. I have a lot to do and look forward to all the opportunities 2025 has to bring.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been far from smooth lol. Honestly, DJing was the easiest thing for me to pick up. Ableton, music production, and sound design have all been a huge challenge that I’ve slowly been picking away at. I took Ableton lessons, went to workshops, and have been networking my tail off. Being a part of the scene is really important to me as I love connecting with other growing artists doing a similar thing. As personal life issues like finding a good job, roommate struggles, car issues, etc, there have been many challenges. It’s been a great lesson in balance for sure. I’ve learned so much from starting this journey and I am so grateful for all the lessons so far.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Evening Bass is the name of my music project. Started at the end of 2024, it began as my DJ name. Since deciding to follow the production route I’ve since worked on different branding ideas with images, colors, fonts, and other cool visual details. I should probably be solely focusing on music but a part of me loves the aesthetic and branding aspect. I am super excited for the time when I’m working VJs and brainstorming concepts for cover art. Right now, I have a vision for Evening Bass to have a mix of a neon pop/retro-futuristic aesthetic for visuals but we will see. I have so many ideas and am surer excited to keep working on it.

As for music, I want to have really solid and grounding bass music and dubstep. I want to make upbeat party music and also some of the slower, deep dub. My goal for music is to produce songs that sound amazing, connect people, and create a positive vibe. I believe music is the cure

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest supporters are definitely my family. My dad was a bass player in college and loves music. He has always supported my big dreams, no matter what they are. He especially loves that I’m following a music path. This past Christmas he bought me my first sub and now I can shake my whole house haha. My mom is a badass business woman and is my biggest cheerleader. My sister isn’t in the EDM world at all yet supports me even though she usually doesn’t know what Im talking about. Next, I have to give credit to my teacher and mentor, Rob (aka Homemade Spaceship). I started taking lessons from him and it’s been awesome getting to stay connect to him throughout this process. He makes incredible music and I see big things for his project. I have to shoutout every music teacher, musician, producer, and DJ who has ever given me lessons and/or advice. Fortunately, I have a great group of friends who are all extremely supportive. They come to events when they can and most attend the really big shows. I am extremely grateful to have such a great support group.
