Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Smith.
Hi Grant, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I jumped around through many different industries, trying to find the best path to help people. In my journey I started working for a chiropractor who developed his own technique, and I saw the impact he had on people with the work he did. That inspired me to go down the path of becoming a chiropractor myself. In school, I quickly saw a difference in how I wanted to practice, after working with patients through the full spectrum of tools that were available to me – soft tissue work, chiropractic adjustments, and rehab and exercise. Seeing the vast difference in how quickly patients improved with the combination of all those tools, I knew that was how I wanted to build a practice. Combined with my exposure to the cutting edge technology that Kinetisense is, and the full impact that 3D Functional Movement Analysis brings to healthcare, my opening of Kinetic Centre Denver as a forgone conclusion. During my journey, I had the great fortune to meet some amazing mentors who guided me down the path I’m on, which includes working with patients from all walks of life and all degrees of athletic performance: from amateurs to NFL p[ayers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My path has been far from smooth. My life has been filled with death and grief, and I have attended more funerals in my years that most people do in their lifetimes. This caused me to explore and discover those darker corners of humanity alone, and find a path for myself out of it. As a result, I actually do coaching on the side of people who are stuck in the struggle that death and grief can be.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Functional Movement Specialist. I use a 3D Functional Movement capture technology to track the human body through any movement in all planes of movement. This allows me to assess the movement patterns that we all have, which are largely the cause of all musculoskeletal pain and complaints. This helps me to get to the actual cause of people’s pain, and help them get out of their dysfunctional patterns at a much faster rate that most other people in my profession. I’m also 1 of 14 people in the world who have achieved a Mastery certificate in an adjustment style that assess how the human body holds up under gravity (Gravitational Pattern Alignement), which also helps me to deliver fast, quality results to my patients and takes the entire body into account during every treatment. This exposure has allowed me to work with NFL players on 6 different teams over the past 4 years, and opened doors for me to travel around the country working on professional athletes.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating lasting impact for people. As a doctor, one of the best parts of my job is educating people more about the human body, how it operates, and things they can do for themselves. I feel that the role of a doctor has largely been one of gatekeeping information, so I find a lot of joy and pleasure in showing up for my patients on the opposite side of the spectrum. Helping people become empowered in their health and wellness journey is the single greatest part of my day.
Whether that be through basic movement patterns, or something more complex like a golf swing, I love helping people to drive that understanding for themselves. There are so many different things to consider when it comes to movement, and so many different variables we can push on and lean into, that the path of health and optimization is never complete. That challenge is something that I absolutely love with the work that I do, especially as people find those higher gears and levels of performance, there is always another level that we can achieve.
