Daily Inspiration: Meet Hayley Bagwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Bagwell.

Hi Hayley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I studied Neuroscience in school and went on to become a Neurophysiologist. Overall, I worked in the operating room for 12 years. About halfway through that time, I decided that I wanted to do something that I was passionate about and allowed for more flexibility and creativity. I returned to school to acquire my Master’s in Interior Architecture and Design. While completing my schooling, I also started a Neuromonitoring business with a couple of colleagues. It was tough, but I worked and went to school at the same time. Once I graduated, I began working with a designer in Denver to gain more experience. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Bend, OR and started my own interior design studio. Cedar + Sage Design has been growing ever since. I have recently returned to Denver to expand my business and enjoy all of the great accessibility to design resources here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This is my second business venture, but it is also very different. I didn’t have a lot of projects to show clients, so I had to work really hard at spreading the word that I was here and ready to work. I was consistently attending various networking events around Bend while working with a mentor from SCORE. Surprisingly, the pandemic was when my business took off. At the beginning, all of my clients halted their projects. After a few months of people spending so much time in their homes, they started reaching out to work on projects. I never could have predicted the progress during this time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I typically work in residential design. However, I have also designed offices and a coffee shop. My specialty is organic modern style, which incorporates layered, earthy elements with warm tones such as greens, oranges, yellows, and neutrals. Mixing different textures and layers can help to create a cohesive and curated design. I was recently recognized by the Tile Bar for one of my kitchen designs and have also won awards on Houzz. I think because of my Neuroscience background, I focus more on listening to my clients and creating a look that truly resonates with them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel that I have been very lucky in working with some really amazing clients over the years. Some of my biggest joys are creating close relationships with my clients who then become my friends.
