Daily Inspiration: Meet Jack Goyn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Goyn.

Jack Goyn

Hi Jack, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making music years ago for school playing saxophone which didn’t last long after I discovered punk rock and metal music which consumed my high school years as a guitarist.

Tried making things work with several bands and ultimately got interested in some other things after high school for a few years until I discovered the new wave of electronic music that was hitting the States. I eventually made it to Snowball in Winterpark, which was my first multi-day music festival, and some of my experiences there were so exciting and inspiring that I was hooked on learning how they made this crazy music and eventually being able to rock a crowd like I had witnessed that weekend.

For the next 6 years in WY, I sat in my studio learning how to produce music and design my sounds. Eventually, that led me to CO where I have found so much companionship and friendship through music and have been fortunate enough to play some of my dream venues here in CO as well.

Today, I am trying to balance having a normal life with a 9-5 as well as finishing up my degree, and also figuring out how to make the music project work at the same time. I am hoping to reach outside CO in the coming months as I have been playing shows here for the last 5 or 6 years and would like to play some more out-of-state gigs and find more fans of the music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would not say it has been a smooth road at all and I think any artist out here trying to make the dream a reality would agree that it is hard as hell to make a name for yourself and check all the boxes that are outside of being just an artist.

Learning the ropes as one might say to being a musician entails so many more things than just making the music and sometimes it can be a complete inspiration killer. I think that all those struggles are far overweighed when you can share your music on stage with an energetic crowd. I would say that it has been a very rewarding rocky road haha

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am trying to finish up my associates in computer-assisted drafting and design at Front Range Community College in Westminster and I just started a new job as a test driver for Audi driving their prototype vehicles.

My ultimate goal professionally is to get a job that I can work remotely from home allowing more free time for music and other personal interests!

I from time to time will do audio work with the skills I’ve taught myself to help out friends or other clients with mixing and mastering work and even some educational sessions. I enjoy teaching people how to make music with Ableton and I would like to one day look into turning that into more of a regular business.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Oh man, where do I start? My parents right off the bat. Hands down my biggest supporters. Maybe not of the music itself, but I wouldn’t be anywhere without them and their support regardless if they thought some of my choices were good ones or not haha.

I have to give a huge thanks to Bri Long in Fort Collins for putting me on when no one knew me coming from Wyoming. She gave me a spotlight and opportunities that helped me out so much as a performing artist.

My support group in Denver is so big so I’ll try to keep it short. First off I want to shout out Make Wavs and True To The Sound, both collectives that I have been a part of since their inception and could not do anything without these guys’ support. Everyone involved in these two groups is incredibly talented and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them

Rich Riley aka Bankaji who is another amazing producer/DJ here in Denver who runs Make Wavs and who I have made quite a few songs with has been somewhat of a mentor in a lot of ways and has taught me so much. I think I’m not alone when I say that he is an example to a lot of us. Lastly, my roommate Brandon and my homie Pitta Patta, both producers as well have been really good friends to me.

Love you guys!
