Daily Inspiration: Meet Jamie Sarche

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Sarche.

Jamie Sarche

Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

In an industry that always tends to do things in the same traditional manner, I approached the job in a totally novel way, creating my position as Director of Pre-Planning from scratch. Before Feldman, I had no experience in the funeral industry. As the Director of Pre-Planning at Feldman Mortuary, I have become a leader in the funeral industry, not only in Colorado but nationally.

My intention is to change the paradigm around how the funeral industry approached the pre-planning of funerals and to attempt to change people’s views on the very concept of death and dying, a very fraught topic in the United States.

In the fifteen years I have been at Feldman, I have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. I have brought national recognition to myself and my company through my success.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle is working against our society’s aversion to acknowledging mortality and discussing death! It’s such a taboo subject.

My WHY is to change that! Aside from birth, death is the ONLY experience every one of us will have.

Let’s learn to talk about it!!!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have changed the way the funeral industry does business. The industry is very traditional, and business tends to be done the same way year after year. Typically, in the industry, people are sold funeral services in a cookie-cutter manner where a representative will set up a meeting with a prospective client and do a canned presentation that discusses a range of funeral options.

I approach clients by creating long and deep relationships, and this philosophy is underpinned by my mission to educate people about death and to make them more comfortable with mortality. In interactions with clients, I ask about their values and meet those values while gently helping people get past myths and unhelpful beliefs about death.

As a result, Feldman clients always emphatically say that they feel I am a confidante and advisor, and they don’t feel “sold” by me. In making a personal connection with clients, I am never in it for a quick sale, and I often maintain ongoing contact with clients.

How do you think about luck?
The real luck has been in just coming across the job. I knew nothing about this business; when I heard about the role, it was like being hit by a bolt of lightning. This is exactly what I am SUPPOSED to be doing.
