Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Grieco.
Hi Jen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a Certified Professional Midwife and Registered Midwife in the state of Colorado. With over 15 years of midwifery experience, I’ve dedicated my life to supporting families throughout many of life’s significant events, but especially through the sacred journey of childbirth.
My approach is rooted in the belief that birth is not simply a physical event but soul work—a co-creation of a deeply personal and empowering experience. I stand by the principle that every individual’s body, baby, and choices deserve the utmost respect, advocating for a prenatal, birth, and postpartum experience that is safe and protected.
Driven by a lifelong passion for the magic of birth, my journey to becoming a midwife has been deeply personal and transformative. From early childhood, captivated by the care of my newborn sister, to a career in nursing, I’ve always sought a deeper connection in caring for others. However, it was the birth of my third child, coupled with the profound guidance from a midwife, that steered me towards my true calling: homebirth midwifery.
Welcoming my own children earthside has influenced my philosophy surrounding birth and the style of midwifery care that I offer. As a birth steward, I help co-create the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences that my clients envision.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Relocating from Southern California to Northern Colorado in the summer of 2022 marked the beginning of a new chapter, and with it came the unmistakable hurdles of establishing my practice from scratch in an entirely new state. The essence of homebirth midwifery care thrives on personal connections and word-of-mouth recommendations—stories shared between past clients, friends, and the broader community.
In pursuit of grounding myself within this new setting, I reached out to fellow birth workers in the area. These connections were invaluable, not just for their welcome and wisdom but for helping me discern how to uniquely position my services and role as a community midwife. The goal was to weave my offerings into the fabric of the community, addressing unmet needs and complementing the existing landscape of care.
The journey wasn’t swift, and it demanded perseverance, openness, and a deep trust in the process. Gradually, I found my footing, and the community began to embrace me in return. This experience, challenging though it was, reinforced my belief in the power of community and the importance of every step on the path to finding one’s place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am proud to be a homebirth midwife and am honored that I get to advocate for people wanting to experience an uninterrupted, normal, physiological birth. My specialty lies in creating a safe, nurturing space for families to welcome new life in the comfort and intimacy of their own homes. I’m known for my holistic approach to childbirth, integrating not only the physical aspects of birth but also honoring the emotional, mental, and spiritual journey of each family I have the privilege to support.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the number of babies I’ve witnessed come into the world, but the depth of connection and trust I’ve built with families during one of the most transformative experiences of their lives. It’s in the way parents feel empowered and heard, the way they discover their own strength and intuition through the process of birth, and how they emerge more connected—to themselves, their babies, and each other.
What sets me apart? It’s the profound belief that birth is more than a medical event—it’s a rite of passage, a moment of profound transformation that deserves respect, patience, and reverence. It’s my commitment to tailoring my care to each family’s unique needs, wishes, and circumstances, ensuring that every birth I attend is as individual as the baby it welcomes.
In a world where birth has become overly medicalized, I stand firm in the belief that pregnancy and birth are to be trusted and that each person (if they desire) deserves a natural, empowering experience on their own terms, surrounded by love and support. This philosophy, coupled with a deep respect for the wisdom of the birthing body and an unwavering dedication to personalized care, is what I believe truly distinguishes my practice.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was an outgoing child but always felt most at home with my nose in a book. I loved the challenge of school/academics and was grateful for the many travel experiences my parents provided me and my siblings with. I loved experiencing other cultures.
I remember stating in grade school that I wanted to become a doctor, not because that was the common response when young children were asked, but because I had this deep desire to truly help others, and “doctors” seemed to be the ones helping. I almost went that route It’s funny how things shift and synchronistically align to place you exactly where you are meant to be.
