Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Squires.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, I taught myself guitar and piano by ear and I started writing songs and playing in bands when I was about 13/14 yrs old. I’ve always been Into so many different styles of music. I started out playing in punk bands as well as indie rock and I’ve always played singer/songwriter-type stuff. I don’t want to be boxed into one genre. Each one of my albums sounds different but familiar.
I’ve worked very hard to get where I am right now. It was not easy. I’m 42. I have been in this industry for a very long time and I’ve seen all the good, bad, and ugly. I’ve learned from past mistakes and I will always take a more DIY approach no matter who I work with in terms of record labels, management, and so on. I make sure I surround myself with people I trust 100% and that love my music. That’s why I love my current record label. Blackbird Record Label (Manda and Eric) truly is amazing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, unfortunately, it has not been a smooth road for me. I have worked very hard to get to where I am today in terms of my music career, and passions and to achieve even just the most realistic goals. I have fought and struggled with mental illness my entire life and I have endured a tremendous amount of loss. I am very lucky to have finally found a team that believes in me and fans that are truly engaged and helped by my music, photography, poetry, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter, musician multi-instrumentalist, and recording/touring artist. I have 14 albums as well as other projects and releases. I am a photographer as well and it helps me to express myself in different ways that I can’t with music. I combine my poetry and photography sometimes and it inspires me and opens doors to other creative outlets.
I am most known for my music career. I am proud of everything that I do that has helped people to get through their hardships and helped them to find beauty in places that they would not expect. I think what sets me apart from others is how prolific I am and how I try to truly connect to my fans on a genuinely personal level.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I like to stay away from anything that could distract me in my daily life. I have a routine and I write, meditate, take photographs and spend time with my people to help me live my best life and to stay creative. However, I am a huge movie nerd. Especially, 80s horror.
