Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Call.
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2008 I was a college freshman and quickly realized that wasn’t the path for me. After finishing my freshman year I withdrew and applied for Beauty School. I started cosmetology school in 2010 and have been behind the chair ever since!
After 9 years of working as a commission stylist, I decided I was ready to take on being a business owner myself. It was around this time that I ventured into the world of education and became an educator for the brand Laced Hair Extensions. Then in 2022, the opportunity came to open a suite inside Image Studios and it has been the best year of my career so far. I love being able to offer my clients a unique and private luxury salon experience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I started trying to build my clientele in a recession so there were a lot of hours put in at the beginning trying to get referrals and new clients from the salon’s retail floor. Social media wasn’t really a tool we had developed for marketing yet.
As I grow in my career, I focus heavily on educating myself so I am always offering the best techniques, products, and services to my clients. It is an ever-changing industry so paying attention to what is trending, new technologies, and how client needs change is very important to me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have found myself drawn to hair color from a young age. As the daughter of a cosmetologist, I started getting highlights around age 10 and have been hooked ever since. I specialize in luxury, low maintenance, dimensional colors, and hair extensions.
I want to be able to offer someone the hair of their dreams without compromising the integrity of their scalp or hair which is why I research all products and methods I use. I want my clients to feel like their hair feels better and healthier when they leave without compromising the aesthetic.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Moving out of a shared salon space and into my own studio was the biggest risk I’ve taken. Being solely responsible for marketing yourself and running your business is a daunting task but very rewarding. I have never been happier.
