Today we’d like to introduce you to JoJo Pride.
Hi JoJo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Denverite one of the few and proud individuals from Denver Colorado. With a lot of people starting to migrate to Colorado, it makes me proud to be the few OG’s and motivates me to put on for my city harder and show the world what greatness Denver produces.
I am a product of many dope programs based out of Denver.
The Crowley Foundation, founded by Kenneth D Crowley Sr. , is a humongous supporter to not only me but many other young black men in Denver providing keys to success by helping them establish their definition of what Family, Service, Paying it Forward, Authenticity, Leadership and Scholarship means to them.
They accomplish this through hosting yearly Boys2Men Leadership Summits that consists of groups of young black middle and high schoolers collaborating within Brotherhoods to present a project that highlights their understanding of the Summits overall theme. Some of the themes from previous years included: A King’s Life, Save A Thousand, Keys To The City, and the upcoming I’m a Business, Man. I am a proud ambassador of the Crowley Foundation and eternally grateful for their contribution of instilling greatness within Colorado’s future.
I’m also apart of an art collective named Blvck Kosher where we highlight local Denver artists such as Blvck Qi, elise, She Who Won’t Be Named and Conny Th3 Great just to name a few. Some of these artists are some of my closest friends from high school who have stayed dedicated to their craft and it’s an honor to keep building the foundation of our dreams together. It’s really surreal how we were performing together in the auditorium to performing all around town.
We will be gracing the stage for our August Event “Kosher and Company” and I’m ecstatic to share the spotlight with my fellow brethren.
A little bit about me, am an entertainment artist well versed in the arts of performance, ranging from Acting, Stand-Up Comedy, and DJing.
I also make tie dyed shirts called through my business SickNTyed.
I grew up in Park Hill where I still reside and take it upon myself to open more doors to opportunities for fellow artists to expand upon their perception of freedom and leave behind the keys so that others can find their way through this puzzle of life. It’s a bit difficult to explain how I do this, but to put it in simply and pay homage to Mac Miller, I’m a K.I.D.S
KICKING INCREDIBLY DOPE SHIT
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I tend to get in my own way sometimes. Whether it be self-doubt, depression, inconsistency I look at these road blocks and I analyze the source of these problems to turn them into building blocks. I get better everyday because I choose to be better than I was yesterday, and I know that sound GOUDA CHEESY!!! But I find that those affirmations can really carry you through those hard days.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The world famous Comedy Works, Denver Improv and The Comedy Fort pull in thousands of professional comics from around the globe, however the audience turn out outside of these venues are not always the desired outcome. I believe this is due to the amount of exposure for comedy throughout Denver. I don’t believe enough people are hip to where you can find quality comedy, but
there are dozens of excellent shows and opportunities for comics to get up on stage and do their material that are worthy of a great audience.
Here are a handful of solid shows and mics to keep in mind for the ones who don’t know:
Lions Lair:
Denvers longest running open mic ran by Anthony Crawford on Monday and Gong show on Tuesday that encourages comedians to win the crowd over in 7 minutes or they get GONGED OFF STAGE.
Pallet City:
A collection of solid shows and open mics at Locust Cider, Monkey Barrel, and Tacos Locales overseen by Garrett Nygren
Wide Right:
a Denver comedy staple for people to enjoy a variety of shows and phenomenal wings ran by Megan Deponceau
Rise Comedy
A space where comics only do shows but learn more about the fundamentals of comedy through classes in improv and stand up comedy. This venue leaves room for other forms of comedy such as improv, clown shows, and skits.
All Fours
A new up and coming show featuring some of Denver’s funniest comedians Evan Joe, Adam Gilliland, Jake Tupitza, and Spaghetti Jake. This comedy show is a wild, unpredictable, and wonderful roller coaster mixed with absurdly hilarious skits and stand up comedy from the best comedians in Denver.
