Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Borrego.
Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello everyone! I am Jordan Borrego, and I run JSB Cinema along with my wife Sara!
While JSB Cinema’s official inception began nearly seven years ago in 2019, our origin preceded that date by many years. I (Jordan) started my film journey in fifth grade, catching the “cinematic bug” while visiting a local news station and making movies with friends. Sara’s own journey was more aligned with photography, capturing high school memories with her friends. We fell-in-love while pursuing different career paths in Mass Communication and Tech. While we would both graduate with degrees in our respective fields, we had also rediscovered our passions for video & photo along the way, capturing our travel adventures and memories. Our videos centered around stories, reactions, and adventure, gathering attention and collecting over a million views. Once we tied the knot, our shared passion became evermore intertwined with our every-day life. We organically began getting inquiries to film weddings and businesses, even though we were just making these videos for “fun”. What began as a hobby was slowly turning into something we could not continue to ignore. “Could we make this into a viable career that would fulfill and be financially profitable?” It was admittedly hard to imagine us running a small business, but the interest for our services made us curious enough to take the proverbial leap-of-fath. Sara soon after left her job and career to have more time and flexibility to film. It took me another four years to join her in that leap, leaving my career in I.T. for JSB Cinema. Fast forward to today, by the Grace of God we have become successful in this line of work, filming over one hundred weddings, events, and numerous businesses across Colorado. The thousands upon thousands of videos and photos we’ve delivered to our clients were created with as much care and precision as that very first video, and even though we have vastly improved since our humble beginnings, we haven’t ever forgotten that fire and passion that lead us to where we are today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We believe that the best journeys have the most ups and downs. These last seven years of JSB Cinema, from it’s inception to today, has been full of challenges. Working for yourself has a lot of desirable benefits, but the negatives are sometimes hard to navigate. You have to be your own boss, which means self-discipline is one of the highest priorities. We can both thrive in chaos, but the best businesses require reliable structure to effectively build into something stable. While it can be (and has been) a struggle to remain organized with projects, emails, and backlogs, we strive to deliver effective communication and professionalism with every client we encounter. Transparency and honesty are a few of our keys to success.
We have also welcomed a beautiful baby boy into this world, which presents it’s own exciting challenges and tasks to juggle, but through this journey, we continue to improve and progress each day into an upward trajectory.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The best part of this business is the variety of new experiences we get to film and create. A wedding film is drastically different than a corporate advertisement, and a real estate video is entirely different than a documentary. Our clients hire us specifically for our creativity and abilities to understand emotion.
We approach every project with two important questions that need to be answered: “Where is the story going?” and “How does it make you feel”. Our world is flooded with content that is all fighting for every second of our attention, so creating content that means something is more important now than ever.
We bring this philosophy into our wedding films, both while we film and when we edit the project. We are known for capturing authentic emotions and presenting those feelings to the audience. This means on the day of the wedding, we arrive with numerous cameras, audio equipment, and lighting to ensure we effectively capture the surface-level events of the day while simultaneously capturing the deep under-the-skin emotions of those involved. A wedding is full of sentimental tears and once-in-a-lifetime memories, but it is also a celebration! We bring just as much of our energy and passion with the tearful moments as we do in the exciting vivacious celebration, dancing with the crowds.
Our corporate work strives to be just as dynamic as the wedding films, bringing our passion for video into each client’s experience. Spliced in between these two main categories is our other “etc.” projects, such as creative film and documentary work.
We are passionate about what we do, treating every moment as if it only happens once. With hundreds of satisfied clients whose events, products, & memories were properly preserved into CINEMA, you are hiring a dedicated team that cares as deeply about your special event as you do.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I believe there is room for everyone in this line of work. The one thing we recommend to anyone involved in photography and videography is this: JUST START. If you love creating videos for yourself now, put that same love into creating videos for someone else. If you can effectively show your passion and desire to learn, that will show through your work. I wish I had known seven years ago to not hesitate. Don’t wait until something is perfect to publish it, complete and publish your work now! This will help you learn quicker and to avoid having too large of a backlog. Create a small network of people you trust and allow them to critique your process. Having a partner that is involved in JSB Cinema has continually helped this business thrive, so work with someone you trust and build an empire with them.
