Daily Inspiration: Meet Joseph Burris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Burris

Hi joseph, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Small victories are nice in life. I was home schooled after the bullying until I was able to go to High School, but that didn’t last very long. Instead, of a couple of bullies, there were too many to count. Since I was a loner and outcast fitting in was never an option anywhere that I went. I was enrolled into the Martial Arts and weight training outside of High School, and it was not long until I left school altogether. I went for my GED and passed it. The Martial Arts and weight training did help build my self-esteem, to a point. Because I came from a family that were, somewhat, into a life of magic and the supernatural and valued the night, but, funny enough, still maintained many Christian values, it allowed me to explore the darker side of the world around me. I developed a different view. I was able to see the beauty of the darkness that was not always perceived as fair or stunning, but as evil and wicked. My life turned around and I went the way of a Gothic. It was my mother who got me into Gothic modeling. That really helped me to gain even more confidence. As the years passed, I would meet my new friend and photographer, Jonathan, who would become my main photographer for many years to come. I went down a road few have traveled. I felt I was a freak, and I started to explore the Vampire way of life. Not just the aesthetics, but the enjoyment of blood-drinking with willing participants. When I started down this road I was in my twenties and in college. As time went by and some of my photos became popular, I started to make connections with other like-minded people. Julia DarkRose, was a huge influence in my life. She was one of the founding vampires dealing with and teaching about real human vampires in modern society. We are still very like-minded even though she has chosen a quiet life, now. I am still seeking my place in the world. With life, you meet some really nasty people, but you can also meet some people who you feel are sent to guide you in so many different ways. A man named Greg was one of those people. As well, as a man named Jimmy, just to name a few such tremendous influences in my life. I still feel their influence every day in my life, even though they have passed. I still talk to them late into the night when I am alone. I still ask many questions, but this time they don’t answer and that’s okay. I believe, despite my personal growth and many other stories that I can share, I find myself still trying to find a way to enjoy what is around me. I’m still trying to make sense of my life and what my nest move might be. Being a vampire is enough of an outcast, add doubt, fear, and confusion and a need to question most things about this world, you really do become someone who will walk alone throughout life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No such thing as a smooth road. Just never give up and you will make it someday.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a Gothic model, a body guard, a life/stress management coach, metabolic coach/trainer, a project manager, a home healthcare worker, a furniture mover, a paranormal investigator, and a freak.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
A loner, a loser, someone who preferred to play video games, read fantasy books, walk the streets at night and dream through my moments of solitude.
