Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Mock.
Hi Kim, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My photography journey started after my dad passed away from cancer, my husband and I decided to move to Colorado from New Jersey. We bought a camera to document our road trip for the move and I instantly fell in love with photography. It gave me an outlet for my anger and depression after my father passed, over 6 years later it still does. I struggle a lot with my mental health and photography is always there for me, almost like a form of therapy. I love photographing landscapes and astrophotography, I also shoot a lot of concerts, small weddings, and portraits under the name Kimberly Ann Images. I really just love telling stories through my photos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were definitely some struggles, with photography you are forever learning. I look back at some of my first photos and what my photos look like now and it’s like night and day. I’ve definitely learned a lot along the way. How to edit my photos better, how to build of business, how to know your worth, and how to build a community around my brand.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer that specializes in Landscapes and Concert Photography. I think I’m most proud of being a woman thriving in this industry, a lot with my concert photography. You really don’t see enough women in the live music industry. I guess the same goes for landscapes as well. I’m also a big advocate for mental health awareness. I think that’s what sets me apart from others, I’m always willing to speak out about things I’m passionate about or discuss topics that others feel uncomfortable with. Showing vulnerability in my shots and trying new things with my photography.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I use YouTube a lot, when I’m trying to learn a new photography or editing technique, I’m more of a visual, hands-on learner. I also use social media to follow and build a community with other local photographers to bounce ideas off of and learn from.
