Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiona Tempelman.
Kiona, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m originally from NYC. Brooklyn-born, Rockaway raised. I moved out to Denver after I graduated from SUNY Albany. After making the cross-county move, I attended DU where I received my masters in education.
I taught in Littleton Public Schools for a number of years before having my children. I took a break from my career to raise my three children which was an amazing gift to be home with them. Life took an unexpected turn in 2013, as I found myself going through a divorce forcing me to get back into the working world.
Since I still had a little one home, I needed a career that had flexibility. I always have had a passion for helping people and thought I would give real estate a shot. Eight years later I have grown my real estate career and found my landing spot at Mile High Luxury Real Estate.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think growing your business as a realtor in Colorado is tough as the Denver market is saturated with realtors. Ask anyone in Denver if they know a realtor and I bet they’ll give you five to ten names. In my opinion, building up your clientele is the hardest part of real estate.
I know once I work with a client, I build that relationship, and I gain that trust and loyalty, but getting that initial connection/meeting is the hard part. Building up your clientele takes time, a lot of time, and perseverance, lots of it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am about to celebrate my three years anniversary at Mile High Luxury Real Estate. I have been a realtor for the last 8 years, coming into the profession just as the market began to rebound from the 2008 collapse.
I have always loved helping people and there’s nothing more exciting than handing the keys to a new owner. Buying a home is one of the biggest, most emotional purchases for someone. I take my responsibilities as an agent very seriously. I think what sets me apart is I don’t concentrate on volume but more on quality. I would rather work with fewer clients and give them 110% of my focus and attention than work with tons of clients giving them mediocre service.
Many agents view their client’s home purchase as a transaction and once it’s closed that’s it. These aren’t transactions, buying a home is a big deal and a very exciting time. If they are trusting me with that enormous responsibility, you bet I’m going to work my tail off to make the deal as seamless as possible.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Ah… favorite childhood memory. I have a number of them, but probably going to my grandma’s for Sunday dinner is at the top. I grew up in NYC and my grandparents lived in Brooklyn. My grandma was the best Italian cook I know. The family would all sit together around numerous tables (I’ve got lots of uncles, aunts, and cousins) eating ’til we couldn’t eat any more lol! My grandmother passed away about seven years ago and to this day I still make her spaghetti and meatballs about once a month on Sundays. Such great memories!
