Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Hurter.
Hi Lee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally learned acupuncture at the Lincoln recovery in the south Bronx of New York City. Here it was used to aid people dealing with withdrawals from substances such as alcohol and heroin. I went onto work at mental health based in recovery clinic in Massachusetts until coming to Colorado for a four year acupuncture program. I started a private practice after that and I’ve been doing that for over 10 years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My partner at the time had a child and I took a year off of school for that. I was living in Massachusetts at the time and my school was in Colorado. This meant I had to make big decisions about what to prioritize and when and how to finish Acupuncture school while still staying in the lives of my loved ones and family.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Acupuncture is incredibly effective with trauma and a lot of people don’t know that. I like to work with people who are dealing with acute or long-term trauma.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Sometimes you have to take big risks to have big rewards. I moved to Colorado leaving my family and loved ones behind for Acupuncture school and then my acupuncture career. That was a big risk with a big reward.
