Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddy Murphy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in space holding started when I was a young adult just getting into the music industry scene. It was the time when Music Festivals were booming. I worked and attended quite a few festivals during those years and would always find myself gravitating towards someone who was having an experience in one way or another. It was only recently that I realized that I had always been a “space holder” for humans. I think being a human is really hard just at baseline. You add in all the systematic, personal, and external struggles, and well, that’s why I am here. Humanity is the basis of all the work I have done thus far in my life and will always be at the core.
Ballet, working in the music industry, teaching yoga, and my years of therapy all led me to become a Breathwork Facilitator. The road has been long and winding, and it is not stopping anytime soon as I am still growing into who I am both in my career and personally. My own personal mental health journey was the thing that led me to try Breathwork for the first time. in 2019 my therapist gave me $100.00 of her own money and told me to try Breathwork. I was at a really hard place in my life at the time and this gave me the tools and knowledge to progress forward in my healing. Fast forward and I am ready to offer the same support to others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh heck, it’s still so bumpy. I am everyday evolving, rewiring old patterns in my brain, fighting off the thoughts in my head that pull me away from my growth. In my life, I have been the main thing that holds me back, but that’s humanity, isn’t it? But really, Is it ever a smooth road? I’d love to meet one but then again the lessons you have along the bumpy road teach you so very much.
I do think in a world with so many people doing so many cool things it can get pretty hard to find your voice. The thing that has worked for me is developing myself as a person first through my own somatic and mental health practices. This has allowed me to find people who value just me as a human and establish a relationship of trust. Breathwork facilitation really is based on trust. It is important to me that the people I work with trust me and know that I am not here with any agenda, my only intention is hold them in their humanity like many people have done for me in my life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have worked in both the music industry and wellness industry for my whole career thus far. I’m not exactly sure what I am “known for” but I know what I am about and that’s making sure people feel whole and held with both Yoga and Breathwork. I think everyone deserves spaces that they can be themselves without all the conditioning placed on us from our jobs, family, friends, etc. I also think everyone deserves tools they help them with regulation and shadow work, and my breathwork facilitation is just that. I do believe that my personality is what sets me apart. Being a yoga teacher has really helped me with growth within my career specifically because it helped me establish my voice. There is an abundance of yoga teachers in the world and especially in Denver. That being said, people come to my classes because they vibe with me as a human, it’s as simple as that. I say things that they too feel in their life and that’s what makes me, me. This allows for authentic connection which is so very important in this scope of work. It is the same for my Breathwork clients, they come to me because we have some sort of connection. My hope is that they feel safe with me because I don’t try to fix them (as no one should). I remind people that they are their greatest healer, best friend, and the holder of the truth because they know themselves best and my job is to provide the tools for you to go there.
