Today we’d like to introduce you to Makaela Kuhlman and Allie McCrea.
Hi Makaela & Allie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever Magnolia began in the most unexpected and serendipitous way. At the time, we were both working for someone else in the wedding industry—completely unaware of each other. One day, we were told to meet in a parking lot and ride together to a wedding we were both working. We had never met before, but the second we got in that car, something just clicked. We became instant best friends in that very first interaction. We spent the entire drive talking about our lives, our dreams, and our goals—and quickly realized how aligned we were, not just in our passion for weddings, but in the kind of life and business we wanted to build.
That ride sparked the idea of creating something of our own. And from that moment on, Ever Magnolia started taking shape.
We’ve gotten to where we are today by keeping our eyes on the vision and staying rooted in our “why.” We never let a “no,” outside opinion, or challenge stop us. Instead, we leaned into each other, constantly problem-solving, thinking creatively, and showing up with grit and grace. Working together has always been one of our greatest strengths—we balance each other, push each other, and celebrate every win along the way.
Building strong connections has also been key to our growth. We’ve formed genuine relationships within the industry through our daily lives, and networking has become a natural and essential part of what we do. The trust, support, and collaboration we’ve found in this community have helped shape Ever Magnolia into what it is today—and we’re just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a dream is never easy—but it’s absolutely worth it. While the vision for Ever Magnolia came naturally to us, the execution of growing a women-owned business has had its fair share of challenges. There’s nothing simple about turning passion into a sustainable company, especially in an industry as dynamic and demanding as weddings.
Some of the struggles we’ve faced have come from outside influences—things beyond our control, like industry shifts, economic changes, or being underestimated simply because we’re women. But one of our biggest strengths is that we’re always a hands-on, all-in team. No matter what comes our way, we face it together—with intention, resilience, and a commitment to problem-solving. We don’t shy away from the hard stuff; we tackle it head-on and with diligence.
Every challenge has made us stronger and more grounded in our purpose. It hasn’t always been smooth—but that’s what makes the success that much more meaningful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Ever Magnolia, we are wedding planners and coordinators who specialize in crafting intentional, detail-driven celebrations that feel deeply personal and effortlessly beautiful. We work with couples to create weddings that reflect who they are—down to the smallest detail—whether we’re managing every step of the planning process or stepping in toward the end to bring everything together seamlessly.
We’re proud Colorado natives with a deep love for this state—its mountains, flatlands, open skies, and the variety of venues and natural beauty it offers. That connection to place inspires so much of what we do, from mountain-top ceremonies to charming prairie weddings. We love helping our clients experience the magic of Colorado in a way that feels true to them.
What sets us apart is our partnership. As two women who became instant best friends and business partners from the moment we met, we bring double the heart, perspective, and energy to everything we do. We balance each other’s strengths and work as a fully hands-on team at every event. Our couples get two planners who are equally invested in their day and who truly care about making it meaningful.
We’re known for our calm, organized, and solution-oriented approach—but also for making the process enjoyable and stress-free. We form real relationships with our clients and industry peers, and we’re proud of how many lasting connections we’ve built along the way.
More than anything, we’re proud of the trust couples place in us. Being able to walk alongside them during one of the most important seasons of their lives—and to bring their vision to life with intention and care—is what makes this work so special to us.
How do you think about luck?
We’ve always believed that hard work, consistency, and heart are what build a business—but we’ll admit, we were incredibly lucky in one very important way: the way we met.
Being assigned to ride together to a wedding—having never met before—felt like pure chance. That moment of unexpected connection led to an instant friendship and eventually the foundation of Ever Magnolia. In that sense, we believe luck gave us the opportunity to find each other, but everything that’s come after has been built through intention, trust, and a lot of hard work.
We don’t rely on luck to grow our business. We show up every day with purpose, creativity, and a commitment to our clients. Still, we’re forever grateful for the lucky moment that brought us together—because without it, Ever Magnolia wouldn’t exist.
