Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel Aragon.
Hi Manuel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Denver is my hometown, and it’s the place that’s shaped who I am—both personally and professionally. Growing up here, I learned early on the value of community, resilience, and the importance of giving back. My journey hasn’t been a straight line. As a juvenile, I made mistakes that led to a felony conviction. That experience was a turning point for me. It forced me to confront the consequences of my actions, but more importantly, it fueled my determination to turn my life around and build something positive.
I invested in my education, earning an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and certifications as a bookkeeper and electronic return originator. Step by step, I rebuilt my life and my reputation, channeling my energy into helping others navigate their own financial challenges. Starting Aragon Tax Return Services here in Denver felt like a way to give back to the community that gave me a second chance.
The road to building my business has been filled with obstacles—financial constraints, the struggle to find and retain clients, and the pressure to keep growing. But every setback reminded me of how far I’ve come and strengthened my commitment to leaving a legacy, not just for myself, but for my son and the people I serve. My story is proof that your past doesn’t have to define your future. I’m proud to serve clients across Colorado and beyond, but my roots in Denver keep me grounded and motivated to create lasting, positive change.
For me, success is about more than numbers—it’s about using my experiences to lift others up and leave a legacy my son can be proud of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—far from it. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of challenges, both personal and professional, on the path to building my business.
One of the biggest hurdles was overcoming my past as a juvenile with a felony conviction. That experience made it harder to earn trust, open doors, and prove myself, not just to others, but to myself as well. I had to work twice as hard to rebuild my reputation and show that I was committed to making a positive impact.
On the business side, there have been plenty of struggles: dealing with limited resources, managing cash flow, and figuring out how to attract and retain clients in a crowded market. There were times when money was tight and the pressure to succeed felt overwhelming. I had to learn how to market myself, handle setbacks, and keep moving forward, even when things didn’t go as planned.
What’s kept me going is my determination to leave a legacy for my son and to show others that your past doesn’t have to define your future. Every struggle has taught me something valuable about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who believe in your vision. The road hasn’t been easy, but each obstacle has helped shape me into a better business owner, father, and member of the Denver community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At my core, I’m an accountant and tax professional, but my work extends far beyond numbers and forms. Through Aragon Tax Return Services, I help individuals and businesses navigate the complexities of tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and financial planning. I specialize in providing transparent, personalized service—making sure my clients not only stay compliant but also truly understand their finances and feel empowered to make smart decisions.
What truly sets me apart is my passion for creativity and communication. I’m proud to be a national bestselling author, and I’ve used my love of writing to break down complicated financial concepts into clear, relatable language—whether that’s through educational materials, articles, or my own books. I believe financial literacy is a powerful tool, and my writing allows me to connect with people in a way that goes beyond the traditional accountant-client relationship.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients and the reputation I’ve earned for integrity and service. But I’m also proud of how I’ve woven creativity into my business—developing easy-to-understand guides, sharing stories from my own journey, and helping clients see their financial picture from a fresh perspective. That blend of technical expertise and creative communication is what truly sets me apart in the industry.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about my upcoming book release “The Tax of Life”, which is another opportunity to share knowledge, inspire others, and continue building a legacy that combines financial empowerment with the power of storytelling. Ultimately, I want my work to leave a lasting impact—not just by helping people with their taxes, but by inspiring them to take control of their financial future and believe in second chances. That’s the legacy I’m working to build, both as a business owner and as a writer.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is about creating a lasting, positive impact—both in my professional work and in my personal life. It’s not just measured by numbers on a balance sheet or business growth, but by the trust I build with my clients, the knowledge I share, and the legacy I leave for my son and my community.
Success means helping others achieve financial clarity and peace of mind, using my story to inspire second chances, and staying true to my values of integrity, service, and continuous growth. It’s about overcoming obstacles, learning from every experience, and making sure that each step I take brings value to those around me. Ultimately, if I can look back and know I’ve made a real difference—empowering people, supporting my family, and giving back to my hometown of Denver and beyond—that’s true success in my eyes.
