Today we’d like to introduce you to Marccus Spearman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts in Kansas City Missouri, for as long as I can remember my single mother went above and beyond to provide me and my two siblings the best life possible while also teaching and modeling the benefits of hard work and dedication.
As a former DI football player, I welcome adversity and it has supported me throughout my life. As a results-driven professional with an entrepreneurial spirit, I hold a passion for Mental Health, Equity, and inclusion. I have a relentless passion for success and knowledge. In my short career, I have thrived on hard work, servant leadership, and the ability to overcome adversity. I’ve learned a lot from all of my successes and even more from my failures.
After graduating college, I moved to Denver and started on a career path in Law Enforcement specifically with the Denver Public Schools Department Of Safety. I went on to become an assistant principal after receiving my master’s degree in psychology. My time as an assistant principal was awesome I got a chance to impact in a positive way the lives of thousands of students. I spent four years as an assistant principal and now lead the Trauma-Informed & Restorative Practices teams for Denver Public Schools while also learning more about business which has pushed me to pursue my entrepreneurial spirit and my passion for business ownership within the marijuana industry.
I’ve always been interested in the marijuana industry, I think back to my undergraduate Criminal Justice class final project being on the Positive Impact of the Legalization of Marijuana. However, with all the barriers to entry into the marijuana industry, I never thought business ownership was a possibility because of my socioeconomic status but with the passing of HB20-1424 and HB19-1230 allowing for Licensees In Regulated Marijuana and Marijuana Hospitality Establishments. I saw this as an opportunity to not simply enter the regulated marijuana industry but to pursue my passion for owning and operating a retail hospitality marijuana sales business in the great state of Colorado.
Although we are not operational at this time, Snooty Foxx when operational will be a retail hospitality marijuana sales business. Operating in the regulated marijuana industry, As a retail hospitality marijuana sales business meaning, we will allow the purchase and consumption of marijuana to all adults 21+, currently, we are in our seed round and raising capital.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth but I see the struggles or adversity as I like to call it, as opportunities to grow, learn, and continue to not only face adversity but overcome it. I will say that I have been blessed with some amazing opportunities in my life and career and I have had the pleasure of having even better people in my life. The adversity I am currently facing is the real challenge for minority-owned businesses to secure working capital to turn my lifelong dream of business ownership become a reality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am proudest of being the first male in my family to graduate college with a bachelor’s and master’s degree as well as being a business owner. Additionally, I am most proud of the work that I have done as an Assistant principal because I was able to build lasting relationships with students. As well as the turnaround work I was a part of at a local middle school in Denver by dropping suspensions and reducing classroom referrals. I am also very proud of the work I am doing throughout the district for students. I have been blessed enough to get the opportunity to give back to the community through my current work in Denver Public Schools, Managing Trauma-Informed and Restorative Practices. In regards to Snooty Foxx, I am very proud to have been selected into the City and County of Denver Cohort I which offers technical assistance to emerging marijuana business owners, I am not at the finish line yet but I am so proud of taking an idea and turning it into a reality.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
This one is tough so I’ll share a few things that ground me. Someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality. Trust the process although it’s slow the reward is surely worth it. Get comfortable being uncomfortable, that’s where true growth and success live.
