Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcus Kulynyis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Kulynyis.

Hi Marcus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I drove into Colorado in 2017 and my Fire Escape broke down. In Loveland. I was stranded… I was able to get some money from it and bought a tent and started my homeless life in Loveland. I have been all the way up and down this state since then. I was homeless for 3 years. Those three years taught me a lot about life. And one thing it taught me was marketing and demographics. When you fly a sign. (This is the piece of cardboard with the writing on it) you are presenting yourself to the public to ask for a donation for your creative ideas. I did the hungry God Bless signs. They never produced a reaction from the people sitting at the lights. So, I started creating signs like At Least Give me the Finger. Or Cleaner than most politicians. So, I was able to get myself off the streets through persistence and hard work. I was in Longmont Colorado. During most of that time. I recently moved to the Colorado Springs area right when the pandemic hit. During that year I finally was at a point where I could start recording music. Being a chef in my previous career. I got to a point to where all I could hear in my head was my dad telling me the same phrase over and over again. He said “Marcus, you will never be truly happy working for someone. You have to work for yourself then you will appreciate life.” I never understood that during my 20’s but the older I got the more I started to awaken to his advice.

I started creating music as a kid I was in a metalcore band when I was younger. I just grew apart from it and it never went completely way. So, I decided in 2019 to give this a shot. I dropped my first music that year. Then I realized that I had no idea what I was doing. I can make music what do I do after that. So, I started schooling myself on the business side of this music industry. And got asked to be a host on the podcast Colorado Heavy Hitter’s. So, I could start networking and getting to know all the players. I quickly learned that most of these people that are music artist were as lost as I am.

So now we arrive to the point I had an amazing dream about a new type of recording label. One that will sign an artist for one album at a time and walk the whole process of being an independent music artist. And put them through the whole understanding of how to brand themselves and how to structure your social media so you can have a higher social reach across all the platforms. I realized that all a recording label does is marketing. And if I can just sign an artist long enough to teach them how to grow their careers and if they want to go afterwards good for them hopefully, they are equipped with enough information to achieve their dream.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
4×4 I’m taking the rough road. I have a belief that life is a game and it’s safe to say that everyone plays some type of game to kill the time. Well, what keeps you playing is the challenge it gives you. The opposition is why you play. Well, the same is with life. It would be boring if you didn’t have any challenges to test your skills. Who wants to play a game with no enemies to slay. I was diagnosed with bipolar major depressive disorder. And I used to struggle on a daily with this. I also suffered from paralyzing anxiety. I wouldn’t eat out because I couldn’t even order fries from the fast-food joint. For the fear of rejection. I was crippled by my demons. I was a slave to them and entrapped in my mind. This cause me to lose my jobs constantly I had 28 jobs in 3 years’ time. I was so lost that I allowed myself to believe it was ok to be homeless. You know that look a cigarette smoker gets when they are told they should stop smoking. Well, that’s the look a homeless person looks at you with when you tell them to be not homeless. See you can’t change ‘til you are ready to change. It’s an action it words. Change is the drive to not live the way your living. I had a voice in my head telling me that there has to be more to life than me dumpster diving honey glazed hams out of the ally behind the Natural grocer’s.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Watchmaker Entertainment is in the business of creating memories. For both the artist and the fans. We are a startup company that is in alpha testing phase of a new music platform. Here we will only allow music videos to be uploaded by the artist. And each artist will be able to unlock the ability to allow the fans to donate towards a new music video. Plus, monthly and yearly music video giveaways. From here if an artist does well, we will be in a position to offer them a collaborative record deal. So, you never know you could wake up one morning with a recording deal in your inbox on Watchmaker entertainment. We’ve signed a few people already and they are going through the branding process. So, if you’re an artist and you have music videos out contact us at musicvideo@watchmakerent.com. I’m most proud that I have been able to build this up from nothing just dreams and tears. And lots of hard work.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I have so much advice I can write a book. It’s hard to tell you where to start ‘cause everyone is in different levels in life. If I needed to give you the one that would resonate with everyone. Mindset is key. You have to know that no one is going to help you. None you are the only one who is going to help you. See you see a path and your telling people about it. All they see is an overgrown field with a rundown shack half standing. They don’t see what you do. You have to clear out all the weeds and overgrowth. Then, you have to create the path after that You have to fix up the shack and then people will start coming to help when they will start seeing your dream in reality. Someone is gonna show up with some road base then a roofer is going to show up and help. See you have to work on yourself first before you can take a step down the path that leads you to your dream. They don’t take you off the streets and throw you in command of a platoon of soldiers on your first day. They break you down and retrain you. That’s what you’re going to have to do. Before any mainstream music label will look at you now at days you have to have already established a following. It takes time this is not a quick money-making occupation. Well, not a first. It takes two years or more for a fruit tree to produce fruit. When it starts producing it produces A lot of fruit. Your job it’s to nurse this tree till it starts bearing fruit.
