Daily Inspiration: Meet Marina Serdyuk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marina Serdyuk.

Hi Marina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely! Thank you for having me! I started writing music towards the end of high school and in college. I never really pursued it more seriously until recent years. I made a series of demos that didn’t go anywhere, but it was such a passion of mine that I kept trying. I noticed that as time went on, I would keep writing music, and the itch to record never went away. I kept coming back to it. I felt like it was a sign to finally try and do something about it! During the pandemic, I started working with an amazing recording studio in Evergreen called “The Spot Studios.” It’s owned by a couple of great producers! They produced my last three singles and I have no regrets!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh goodness, no. I wish. Finding my style and voice was a struggle. And sometimes, my vision and what came out in a recording session wasn’t always aligned. Executing perfect-sounding vocals (with the style you want, the right intensity, right pitch, etc) is not an easy thing. It requires multiple takes and stamina. That wasn’t always easy. Also, there were times that I thought I wanted a song to be produced a certain way, but then later when I listened to it, it just didn’t work. Therefore we’d have to start again from scratch. It’s one big process really. You just get a little bit better at it each time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Singing and writing original music that comes from an authentic place is what I’d say I’m known for and most proud of. Every song I’ve written has come from a real, emotional experience in my life. It’s helped me process so much and allowed me to let go of a lot of things. I think that’s something that sets my music apart from some. I’m not trying to write something to make a hit song. Obviously, that would be incredible, but that’s never the main goal. The main goal is to write music that emotionally resonates with people and moves them. When one of my songs makes someone cry, that’s when I know I’ve done my job well.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m a big bookworm. I love to read. Especially self-improvement books. I’m always learning about something.
