Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Walsh.
Hi Meghan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up spending my summers on Block Island, an island off the coast of Rhode Island, which is filled with wildflowers of all sorts- hydrangeas being the main event. I always had a love for flowers and a good eye for arranging them. In 2020, I decided to officially start my own business. As for the name, my Pop Pop always would send me flowers every birthday and it made me appreciate “the little things” in life like his annual gift. I wanted to spread the love of blooms around the city and make people feel the same way he made me feel. As Georgie O’keeffe would say, “If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for a moment” – I want everyone to experience the joy of flowers and the uniqueness they bring, the way I do. Fast forward to 2024, with my passion only continuing to brew, I have done several weddings and events and look forward to the future of The Little Things Flowers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would be lying if I said its all been smooth sailing- but for the most part its been a beautiful experience. I have learned a TON about not just the flowers themselves, but the actual running a business side of things- marketing, social media, the finances. It’s not easy, but if you are passionate about what you are doing you will figure it out and still make sure to enjoy the process. I have learned that saying yes to everything is not the right way, but rather to stick with my visions and style is most important. I take time to study flowers and work with an incredible wholesaler- Steven and Sons, who have taught me so much about the industry.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
With a passion for floristry and events, I bring a customized and detailed experience to you. Whether it’s a baby shower, a birthday, or a celebration of life, each arrangement is uniquely crafted with detail and care. I love to understand the meaning behind each order and bring its own unique vibe to life. I am most proud of my dedication to exploring new varieties of flowers, working with different dimensions and verticals to keep bringing new designs to life. Each arrangement comes in a ceramic vase, always avoiding plane glass vases, adding to the artistry of each piece.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I always loved nature, being in it, appreciating it, exploring it. I was blessed to grow up on the east coast by the ocean and start my adult life out west in the mountains in Colorado. I always had an outgoing personality and love bringing people together under one roof, now just adding a flower arrangement to each and every get together!
