Daily Inspiration: Meet Melany McKnight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melany McKnight.

Hi Melany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my business professionally in 2017. I have always had a love for photography even as a child so I decided on a whim one day that I would give photography a try and started taking portraits mostly as a hobby offering portraits to friends and family.

Eventually, in 2017, I decided to dive full force into building a photography business and never looked back!!

Photography is extremely important to me because it is the one thing that we have in life that lasts for generations to come and tells a story of lives past.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. There have been some bumps along the way as there are with most businesses. I have had to learn through trial and error how to run a successful business without having a business degree.

Figuring out my pricing was probably one of my most challenging struggles. It took a lot of research to see what the going rates were for other successful photography businesses as well as what prices would pay the bills that come with owning a photography business and also support my family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in family and senior photography! I also take a lot of sports portraits as well as school portraits. My favorite thing about taking portraits for these events is getting to spend time with the kids.

I adore photographing kids! I love to capture their personalities and have fun with them during their sessions. I am big on taking my time with my clients! I want to build relationships with my clients that will last a lifetime and I want to offer parents a great portrait of their kiddo with a genuine smile and that is what I strive for.
