Daily Inspiration: Meet Melissa King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa King.

Hi Melissa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In high school, I explored photography for a class project. I enjoyed capturing moments shared with families, memorable instances of the landscape changing, and adorable photos of my dog. I recently got back into photography at the beginning of January, and I have been exploring every avenue that I can find for photography–family photoshoots, senior photos, and photos of clients’ passions.

I enjoy capturing moments that highlight my client’s favorite hobbies and activities that light their souls. I currently have clients who love painting, dancing, music, etc. I find the world’s beauty through my lens and within the people that live here–there is magic in each person’s heart that creates a scene worth capturing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Though it has been a challenge to transition from working a full-time position in the mental health field to working an inconsistent schedule, I have not found any regret.

My passion has always been to help people on their journey to find beauty in this world and within themselves.

The biggest difference between my two careers that I have soon come to realize has been seeing the world through more than just a crisis-based lens and now seeing the world as it is–lively and beautiful amidst the difficult moments.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer, specializing in capturing people’s passions. My clients say that I am known for providing a fun, comfortable, safe space while they engage in activities they love. I am most proud of how quickly I have learned how to understand the complexities of photography in such a short amount of time.

Though I still have so much to learn, my growth has been fueled by my passion, and I bring a creative perspective to every photo shoot. Denver is a large playground for photographers, however, I am set apart by my attention to detail in the process as well as the product. I strive to create an environment that is warm and inclusive, and everyone can be themselves. After the photoshoot, I take time and dedicated effort to perfect all of the photos to create an end product that will always hold meaning for generations.
