Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Packard.
Hi Michele, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was a senior cable executive in marketing and programming for over 15 years. I decided to stay home after the birth of my third child to raise my kids. No regrets on that! I was involved in all their activities from PTO, class mom, booster president, football, cross country, cheerleading, etc. When my twins left for college, I realized I was about to have more free time. My family always called me AESOP, for being the ultimate storyteller. I read Lee Childs, Brad Thor, James Patterson, Stuart Woods and always enjoyed the patriotic main character, so I started writing the AESOP series, which is the new generation of America’s iconic heroine 🙂 I took minute elements from my own world, combined with historical and current conspiracies to produce a fun thriller. I purposefully keep the books shorter than typical mainstream. I want you to be able to read on a long plane ride or one day on vacation. It’s been fun, rewarding, and opened up a whole new world for me. I’m still learning, but loving the journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m self-published, so I’ve learned from my mistakes. (Editing, formatting, covers, and more!) I met an incredible group of traditional and self-published authors that have guided me as I learn this new industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mainly write in the Fictional genre, thriller/espionage, but I do have a children’s book and have an upcoming non-fiction self-help book launching in 2022. I will have self-published seven books in 3 years and did it (mostly) self-taught, so I’m pretty happy with jumping into it, so to speak.
What sets me apart from others? Hmm, I think we are all unique. I’m not a grammatically correct writer…and that’s ok. Maybe since I have prior business experience (and age), I try to just appreciate the moment and getting the story across for enjoyment.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yes, I took a risk with diving into this book industry with no previous knowledge/experience or contacts. I was intimidated and fearful of how my friends or others may perceive me since I am not your typical writer. And you know what? I crawled, waddled, and eventually navigated this new journey and so happy I did. I’m not worried about what others thinks any longer, I’m doing something I enjoy and it shows.
