Daily Inspiration: Meet Morgan Cox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Cox.

Hi Morgan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Married to the music, my life has defined the content of my music. All of what I write embodies a situation or scenario that has shaped me or sculpted my world in some way. I’m a singer-songwriter that loves sharing my world with my audience. I’m deeply devoted to my music and I’m always writing new songs.

Growing up, it wasn’t easy for me. Being the middle child of seven in a family with little financial means in a poverty-stricken Denver community was hard enough. I was neglected by my family in both my artistic pursuits and my personal identity. On top of that, opportunities for artistic growth were rare, alongside little to no support from the community or family for pursuing my musical dreams.

At the age of 10, I was diagnosed with severe depression and eventually hospitalized after multiple suicide attempts. Throughout my experiences, I had no steady foundation to develop interpersonal and communication skills. This eventually caused me to resort to violence as a means of survival.

In the present, I have been able to take my negative life experiences and turn them into meaningful musical expressions. In such, I have shifted my perspective, found ways to fall in love with the world around me, and with lots of really amazing therapy, been able to pursue a life worth living.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
More recently, money (working at a coffee shop doesn’t pay a lot), not having a car (which I finally got one), along with lack of other resources has been discouraging at times. But music is my life and I believe that every day is a challenge, but in that, it is also a way to grow and blossom as a person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
– Here in Colorado, I am a singer/songwriter. I faithfully doing open mics every Friday night, as well as booking live shows frequently around town to share my therapeutic music and art.

– I currently have a full-length studio album in production, as well as singles being released on all major platforms.

– I am proud that I can say I write all my material that I sing and that it comes from personal experience.

– My art is very unique because the content that I am creating and have created is revolutionary to the music scene in that my music styles are versatile and fuse rap, rock, RnB, pop, and jazz along with improv vocalizations.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I really think the future of the music industry is unknown and “up in the air”. But as I continue to grow musically and bring my unique sound and style to the scene, I believe I will leave my mark as an influence and encouragement to troubled and struggling future musicians in the years to come. All this with the hope that if my story reaches even one person who really needs to hear it, it can lift them up to where they can find their aspiration to pursue a life worth living.
