Daily Inspiration: Meet Moriah Rieger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriah Rieger.

Hi Moriah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey over the past decade has been a long and winding one, but every step has led me to where I am now, which is supporting brands behind the scenes and helping them tell their stories through video.

I actually started out in the food world, working for a woman named Diane Sanfilippo who has written a series of cookbooks. I joined her team back in 2015 as an assistant graphic designer, and upon realizing that I was not meant for the cubicle life I jumped at the opportunity to join her team full time as a graphic designer. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats on her team, always with graphic design as a strong foundation to whatever project I was working on while also creating courses, expanding into marketing and project management. During our time together, we traveled on two nationwide book tours (I’ve included a photo from our first book tour in 2016), launched courses, podcasts, and products, and so much more. I am so grateful for the past decade I’ve had on her team (and we’re still going strong!) as well as all of the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained during that time.

In the past year, I’ve carried those creative skills forward and began working with other brands and creators as a freelance video editor and content creator. Now, I specialize in helping small businesses and entrepreneurs bring their stories to life on screen by creating videos that feel authentic to their brand and engaging to their audience.

It’s been a journey of following curiosity, getting out of my comfort zone, and finding joy in helping others show up and express what they do best.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not a smooth road, but honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be.

Running a creative business while raising two little kids and supporting my husband through nursing school has been a juggling act, to say the least. There are plenty of days when I wonder how I’ll find the time to grow my business or take on something new, but somehow, I do. I’ve learned to give myself permission to move at my own pace. Slowly forward is still forward. Do I get all the things done on my to-do list? No, but I’ve learned to prioritize what moves the needle and how to take care of my clients, and that’s what matters most at this point.

A big part of my growth has come from just getting out of my own way. I’ve had to learn to stop overthinking, trust that every problem has a solution, and take action even when it feels uncomfortable. The funny thing is, those uncomfortable moments are usually where the best things happen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For the past decade, I’ve been supporting food brands and food-based creators behind the scenes, whether that’s through graphic design, maintaining a social media or online presence, or editing videos for social media and Substack.

I’ve always been drawn the storytelling side of business, capturing the little details that give that little extra spark of personality and authenticity. I think that’s what I’m known for, creating videos that don’t just look pretty but feel authentic and true to the person or brand behind them. Supporting creators for the past decade is really helping me shape how I want to show up and represent my own brand going forward, I know how it feels to share something you care deeply about in a way that connects with your audience.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients. Take Diane for example, we’ve been working together for years and together we’ve evolved and grown creatively. It’s incredibly rewarding to see my work help their businesses show up and stay true to who they are and what they’ve built.

I think that’s also what sets me apart, too. I care deeply about my work, and that I’m delivering the content and offering the support in a way that lightens the mental load that comes with running a business. These people trust me to help things run smoothly in the background (whether that’s keeping a consistent presence online or knowing that they’ve got consistent, high-quality, video content to share), so they can keep doing what they do best, growing their businesses.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always the observer and the helper. There’s a box full of arts and crafts projects in a closet at my childhood home because I was constantly creating things. I wanted to make beautiful things, and I also wanted to help and show love and support to the people I cared about most. I wasn’t the loud kid who wanted to be the center of attention, but if someone needed help, I was the kid to volunteer. I was the “mama” of our friend group, too. My younger sister and I had a group of friends together and I was the one looking out for her and everyone in our friend group. As a 90s kid, we didn’t have cell phones to make videos or anything like that, but I think the combination of constantly caring for others (without being in the spotlight) while also always wanting to create has naturally evolved into the position that I’m in now.
