Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Spear.
Hi Natalie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I never thought I would be a hairdresser… I was never the best dressed in school or super interested in hair and makeup. Sure, for me it was fun and interesting. But what really got me, was being able to invest in people. Hair for me… it’s just a front to loving people well. It’s a tangible skill to help people be wholly self. “There are only three people that touch your hair; Your mother, your lover, and your hairdresser.” I believe that it is a sacred space for people and such an amazing opportunity for influence. I am beyond thankful to be a part of this industry. It has created opportunities that I never thought were possible. Being able to educate people about their hair is just another form of empowerment. Being able to work behind the chair and work for a company that believes in their stylist, is exactly where I want to be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always hills and valleys no matter what you do in life. But because of the people that have supported me, it has been smoother than most. It is because of the things of my past that have set me up for my future Starting at Paul Mitchell the School-Colorado Spring as an Admission assistant taught me how to be professional. To speak clearly and always follow through.
Going to school taught me the tangible skills I needed to do hair. Working at Prodigy has taught me that possibilities are endless if it’s about a whole team and not just self.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work at Prodigy Salon with a dual license of a Barber and Cosmo. I work behind the chair two days out of the week and spend one day working on administrative projects for the salon. I love the balance of both! Building systems, representing, and helping grow the business helps the analytical side of my brain thrive. Being behind the chair ables my creative side to be expressed… Plus, I get to spend time with amazing guests. I really have the best of both worlds!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I grew up in Woodland Park, CO. So, Colorado Springs is that perfect fit for me of “not a big city” but not a “small town” Even though I know this city is thriving and growing like no other. It is amazing to know that I get to be a part of that growth.
