Today we’d like to introduce you to Roderick Harris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It was some friends just chillin, talking about life. We were on another level. Talking about how we’re a different type of people. Going shopping and we really can’t find anything good to wear that had an original feel. Kinda like Ecko had like LRG. We miss that. So we thought of 6000 Feet Below
We started 6000ftbelow clothing because we wanted the Colorado vibe, but with more of an underground feel. The company’s name meaning comes straight off the top of Pike’s Peak at 14,115ft and with Colorado Springs elevation at 6,035ft; so being underground we’re 6000ftbelow.
The 6KFTB logo was inspired by the snow-capped Rocky Mountains, we changed it up to look like an ice cream cone; bringing about the ice cream mountain logo. 6KFTB clothing was established in 2014, and we are still hustlin hard, with a vision to spread Colorado flavor worldwide.
6000feetbelow clothing line up features custom graphic design fresh from the mountain. Our designs are currently available on hoodies, long sleeve shirts, T-shirts, hats, stickers and we are adding more designs and apparel options with the seasons. Our goal is to gain more exposure, by bringing visibility to the unique Colorado lifestyle. We are working to expand from primarily online sales to having our merchandise available in stores locally, with the goal of worldwide.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s crazy how when first started, we worked non-stop. Started selling out of clothing. Then we got lazy, we let things go to our heads. We started with four people, now it’s just two. We came in as friends, great friends. When you run a business you cannot let friendship get in the way. That’s for a different time. Especially when everyone’s vision is different. Finding people to model. That’s a struggle. We’re a small business so we can’t offer lots of money. Free gear is always good.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work for the government in Child Care for 16 years. I’ve worked with newborns to teenagers. I love working with children. It’s one of the greatest careers to have. Preschoolers are my favorite age group to work with. Children don’t care about how you dress, look. As long as you take care of them and treat them like people, actually talk to them about whatever. The things children have said and I’ve seen them do is amazing. Children tell you like it is they have no filter.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
None really Since I’ve worked with children I’ve always been kind of worried about germs. People really should wash their hands more and sanitize. Stay away from people if you’re sick.
