Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Nguyen.
Hi Ryan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started in Florida where I went to school for graphic design. Upon graduation I held a job with a corporation in Sarasota, where I helped them with their branding and marketing. Even with a great job in place, I still feel something was missing. Then I started offering freelance services around town, cold calling businesses to see if they need work done and checking job ads around town. Eventually, I left my corporate job and started focusing more on my freelance and actively looking for jobs that fulfilled my creativity. Now I moved to Colorado to live with my sister and continue my freelance services.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think it was a smooth road. There were always growing pains, such as finding your voice or style, how to be better than yesterday or how to be productive. There are inactive days where I didn’t have work and I would try to create something to keep my momentum going, because once you stopped, it’s hard to get your groove back. I would go around town taking photographs to jumpstart my thought process or I would experience with new designs on my computer.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I mainly do graphic design, such as branding, editorial layout and web design. I also like to add in photography and handmade art.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am definitely risk averse. I can never took risks without having some sort of back up plans. Before I take any risks, I planned out all possible scenarios so when it does go wrong, I can be prepared.
