Daily Inspiration: Meet Ryan Woodland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Woodland.

Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We purchased a 146 farm in Unincorporated Weld County that originally had 35,000 sheep on it for a land development project. When we began to repurpose the fencing material, we learned the value in the reclaimed market. That created Woodland Home Marketplace in 2020. We originally started by repurposing materials from the farm, gates, t-posts, wire, fence posts. rusty tin and corral boards. We were so drawn to the reclaimed world that once we cleaned the farm we quickly transitioned into a fully functioning wood shop and focused exclusively on reclaimed wood products. We sourced products primarily East of the Mississippi River and made our first goal of having the largest inventory on hand in the state of Colorado. We were blessed with year over year growth doubling revenue each year. In our 1st fully committed marketing influenced year we had a gross revenue of just under $2M from last years $700k. We look for $3M in 2026. We source some of the highest quality reclaimed materials in the nation and are working on residences with overall budgets of $15M currently. It has been a fun journey with 71 five star reviews of fantastic customer feedback. We expect to continue that journey with our team of 5 together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, reclaimed building materials are some of the hardest to work with. They are naturally 60-150 years old and almost never straight. Waste factors can be troublesome, humidity across North America varies and stabilizing wood for our CO clients has to be carefully considered. The amount of time that comes into de-nailing, stabilizing, reinforcing, patching and customizing each piece to meet a customers specific need can be intense. Furthermore, our market is entirely subjective. What one person finds beautiful another can call a piece of fire wood. Sometimes we completely mill the historic texture off of reclaimed materials for flooring based on the customers preference while others prefer to see all of the historic patina and character with a simple power wash and clear coat. It is also very hard work physically, we are very proud of the work ethic of our team in the shop. They show up to a tough task day in and day out, covered in saw dust and working their tails off each day to meet deadlines on projects that can be very difficult to calculate craftsman required hours per project.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
If you look at our reviews, I think is describes what we do very well. We want to have excellent customer outcomes with insane attention to detail. We take great pride in turning these pieces of history into something as close to human perfection as possible. We are known for our attention to detail from the quoting process, to meeting deadlines and schedules, to overdelivering with our final results. We are most proud of the reactions that customers have when they come to pick up their products or they are delivered to the job site. We feel like we have an extreme value to their project and it seems to always bring the morale up on the project itself.

How do you think about luck?
I mean everyone is going to have a stretch of bad luck, those are the best lesson to learn. I believe you make most of your luck through preparation and details. Many of us wake up at night thinking about what we can do better on the project at hand and we are constantly evolving. We always talk about trying to be 1% better every day, not just existing and getting through the day. We are not waiting for opportunities, we are going out there trying to find them and show what we can do. When we receive those opportunities, it doesn’t feel like luck. It feels like a reward for the effort we have put in.
