Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Randall.
Hi Sam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had a love for true crime since I was a teenager, but my love for podcasting didn’t start until 2020. My best friend and I decided to explore the podcasting world together – and that’s when Co.Signed Podcast was born. We were consistent with Co.Signed for 2 years.
Once that period of our lives came to an end, I decided to explore the true crime podcasting world by myself. I fell in love with The Vanished and Crime Junkie – and that led to me beginning to narrow down which specific true crime niche I wanted to share with the world. That’s when Crème De La Crime Podcast was born. I decided I wanted to focus on the cases no one was talking about – the forgotten. My show is dedicated to unsolved disappearances – with a focus on cold cases in particular. I do my best to share the stories that have never been shared before to bring new and brand new attention to them in hopes of helping the families receive some answers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The truth is, nothing worth doing is ever easy all the time. Working on unsolved disappearances takes an unbelievable amount of time and energy. From contacting family members, watching documentaries, and fact-checking news articles – the research process can take weeks – even months – depending on how much information is available. The hardest of all in my opinion are the missing children cases.
They take a huge toll mentally and can sometimes take me into a dark place throughout the research process. The key is finding that balance and not forcing the process. I have to continuously monitor my mental health and make sure I am in the best place possible to be able to deliver and share these stories in a respectful way. The actual recording/editing and audio process also takes an incredible amount of time to perfect, but it has been worth every bump in the road.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently a full-time Inventory Control Analyst for a fantastic company, but my true passion is podcasting and missing people. I specialize in deep diving and finding stories and details most have never heard about in these cold cases. Consistent podcasting is also a full-time job in itself, but it’s not hard to be consistent when you truly love the mission and what you’re doing. Sharing these stories in honor of the victims and their families is my proudest accomplishment.
My show differs from others because there is no silly banter or off-topic commentary. The focus is purely on the victims: who they were before they disappeared, the circumstances surrounding the disappearance – as well as theories, potential suspects, and the impact their disappearance has had on their family members. The greatest accomplishment would be to eventually be part of the reason one of these cases is solved so the families can finally have some form of closure.
What does success mean to you?
In my opinion, success means being able to wake up every day and looking forward to what you get to do. I’ve worked in plenty of jobs that made me dread waking up in the mornings, so finding a job and a passion that allows me to help others makes me grateful every day.
