Daily Inspiration: Meet Satwika Sabal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Satwika Sabal

Hi Satwika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have an unusual journey. After finishing my MBA from Glasgow Caledonian University London, I moved to the States and worked for an American Corporate. After about two years there, I decided to pursue my childhood dream of giving the artist in me a shot, particularly acting and finally write that book which had been in my stomach for a long time (it is almost done and will be published next year). I did that for an year but the acting world is feast or famine kind of business. While I have a huge appetite for risks, I craved for financial stability again. Food has been my first love since childhood. It excites me and I can talk about it for hours on end. But I never wanted to become a chef weirdly, ‘storytelling through food’ has been more of my calling. So, as I continue giving my artist a shot, I started a business based on my love for food, my education and my work experience. My company’s name is “The Brand Maker’ and I do brand management for restaurants here in Denver. I am currently working with a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant here in South Denver. If the food is great, I will make that restaurant work!

It is funny how one always comes back to one’s personality. I have always been that person who did more than one thing at a time. Sure it is overwhelming at times but focusing on just one thing just did not work for me! A mentor once told me, “If you allow yourself to do just one thing, you are telling yourself that there is no place in your life for a dream”. And I want a life where even though I need to work extra hard, there is always some space for my dreams.

Lastly, I would like to say, America finally feels like home to me and I am so grateful to get a chance to give my dreams a real shot. The American Dream is not just a narrative but a reality and I am so happy!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No and Yes!

No because let’s face it, nothing is easy. Everything worthwhile often has a steep learning curve but having said that, these are good problems to have. Effective and sustainable time management is the name of the game. If done right, everything that is most cherished is possible!

Yes because I have the opportunity to give my aspirations – my business and art a solid try! I am extremely grateful for that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been acting for more than three years now and it has been an exhilarating journey. I write too.
I am most proud of finally having written a story, a novel, I genuinely like and I hope whoever reads it feels this way too.
I am proud of keeping myself accountable to putting in the hours and work to my acting class, some short films I have shot with my other acting buddies and working together with my talent agent.

Most recently I am proud of being able to start my own company, “the Brand Maker” and I have combined my insane interest in food and my education and work experience by helping restaurants manage their brands.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is when you genuinely look forward to most Mondays of your life and have decent autonomy on your time.
