Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Benz

Hi Savannah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started photography as a hobby documenting my own life! I’m a very nostalgic person & loved scrapbooking my photos. The more I photographed family & friends, the more they wanted their own memories captured by me & it just kind of snowballed! In 2016 I photographed my very first wedding in Cancun, Mexico– a destination wedding as my first wedding was like baptism by fire. Now after many years of a full calendar of weddings I look back at those photos & see where I started with my little camera & kit lens makes me smile & appreciate how far I’ve come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a journey for sure! Deciding to become a photographer & work for yourself also means you wear multiple hats– one day you’re in marking, the next in accounting, the next a web-designer, the next a content creator, etc. I spend so little time actually photographing in the grand scheme of things! Especially when it came to a global pandemic– when the world entirely shut down my business struggled immensely. I fell in love with intimate weddings & elopements when the traditional big weddings were put on hold.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a documentary-style, true-to-life wedding & elopement photographer with a talent for being in the right place at the right time. I like to think I’m highly skilled in the art of noticing! I have made amazing friends out of clients & am so thankful each & every time they invite me back into their lives to capture all their milestones. It’s not just my photos that keep my favorite people around, my style has changed quite a bit through out my years in business & I think that sets me apart a great deal. They can hire anyone in the world to capture their memories, but feeling like you actually have a best-friend behind the camera makes all the difference.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
For starters, being myself! If I can be my authentic self & show you my real life no matter how messy or un-aesthetic it is, you know for sure you can be your own authentic, messy, un-aesthetic self & feel right at home! Besides that, being honest & intentional. As a wedding photographer people invest a great deal of their time, attention, budget & resources to finding just the right person to capture the most important day of their lives so far. I maintain clear communication with my clients so they know exactly what it’s like to work with me & what they can expect!
