Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Jafferis.
Hi Skyler, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
10 years ago, I came to Colorado to go to the “Art Institute of Colorado” shortly after attending the school I felt a strong calling to become a tattooist. I then dropped out of art school and attended a very lucrative tattoo school located in Broomfield Colorado. I completed 8 months of training, then picked up my first tattoo job in Colorado Springs at the age of 19 years old. I tattooed in Colorado Springs for 1 year while living in Denver. The trek was exhausting but I was committed to my craft. Not thrilled on the drive I came to Denver in search of a new shop, here I found a shop that was owned by the world noticed, “Enigma” from “ripplies believe it or not”. Long story short, this wasn’t the career environment for me. On the search, I went again. Bouncing around some not-so-amazing tattoo shops in the Denver metro area. Well. At this point, 3 years had gone by and I was building a great amount of clientele. With my new clientele base, I started my own private studio called SkylineTattoo. Here I worked a lucrative business alone where I could hone my art skills, and be in the correct artistic environment to give my clients the art that they deserved. Another 3 years go by, work, work, work. I had now become quite busy and I knew expansions were needed, but! Before I could expand a tragic motorcycle accident happened to me in 2021, January 29th. I had been struck by another vehicle resulting in the breaking of my left arm, right knee, right ankle, right shoulder, and the dismembering of my entire right hand from my right arm. At this point, I was hospitalized for 21 days, and bedridden for a total of 6 months. During this time, I had a lot of time to think about the way I could create and run my business more efficiently, at the ripe age of 27. “My How Time Flies” As soon as I could walk, I was back in the shop. Retraining my body to create beautiful art once again. Where I then proceeded to hire my first ever employee, James Lafleur. Shortly after that, I hired my second employee Joey Lowden. Now with the help of my two talented artists I knew I could reach the goals I have been dreaming of, during the course of my current stay at Skyline Tattoo, I have been one of the only Tattoo shops in the entire Denver metro area, specifically Aurora with an outstanding 5-star rating across the board with almost 100 reviews. The goal and dream to grow and create is still happening and I have not fully met my expectations as of yet! I cannot wait to see how the future pans out.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth as mentioned in my biography. I worked in a shop a long distance away from my home in the beginning, I bounced from one shop to another avoiding the ever-so-annoying tattoo drama lifestyle. I witnessed unspeakable things in each shop that blew my mind but maybe that is a story for another time. I was taught to never give up, so I continued to pursue my career after a heart-wrenching motorcycle accident, and now to this day I still put out quality tattoo work and teaching.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Realism/Geomteric tattoo artists, I studied mass amounts of fine art in college, growing up watching Ink Master, I knew I wanted to tattoo, and tattoo in every style possible. So, to this day I will take whatever style my amazing clients can put down on the table. I’m very proud of my ability to create different styles of art. I believe this ability is what has gotten me this far in my tattoo career as to owning my own tattoo shop. I’m most proud of having an across-the-board rating on google of 5 stars. This is almost unheard of in the tattoo world.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me in life is to be a positive and encouraging force to people in this world to follow their dreams, never give up, and do what you love.
