Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Jafferis.

Skyler , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello,

My name is Skyler Jafferis, originally born in Denver Colorado. My tattoo journey started at the young age of 20 years old. I originally went to college to become an animation designer at the – Art Institute of Colorado, I quickly discovered my love for design and drawing and knew my talents would be great for tattooing.

I went to a tattoo school, which was out of the ordinary in 2014. I was able to pick up the craft of tattooing very quickly, with my extensive art background from AI Colorado. I then picked up my first tattoo career job in Colorado Springs, traversing from my home in Denver all the south to the springs.

Being a young and fresh tattoo artist it was no easy task to get hired at many studios, as there was little respect for non traditional tattoo apprenticeships from the old head tattooers of the early 2000s. With that being said I made due with what I could. Hoping from one low level shop to another for the course of 3 years, picking up knowledge of the craft of tattoo.

My how times have changed over the last 15 years. Adversities in my early years were extensive to say the least. Finally ready to open my own studio at the age of 23, I found a location in Aurora Colorado. I opened my doors to the public for the first time, with a new refined and medical based private studio that catered to a more luxurious one on one environment. With this tattoo environment I was able to give my clients the highest level of performance and safety within the industry of tattooing.

Skyline Tattoo LLC was established in 2017 and operated out of Aurora for 5 years exactly. By this time I had built my reputation quite high with hundreds of 5 star reviews and nothing less. I was able to maintain more business then ever through the pandemic and prospered quite nicely to the point where i was able to move my entire studio into Denver’s higher marketplace. Located in Highlands Square. Fully operational with 5 chairs the expansion of my company and credentials has opened many new doors with some of the most talented artists from all over the world to work alongside me. Artists from Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Korea, Japan, China, and other parts of the U.S. have all made it a point to tattoo out of Skyline Tattoo since 2023.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has had ups and downs as many business face,

Hard to get into a studio in the beginning,
Hard to establish clients for almost 5 years,
Pandemic shut down,
Almost fatal motorcycle accident,

But, this is life, you have to either let the adversities break you down or rise up and triumph over the things in life that are not easy.
This creates character and resilience.
So without these adversities, I would not be able to create the foundation of what my company stands for.
Which is respect, and high quality tattoo work, with open arms to all walks of life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a large scale custom tattoo artist, I primarily work on full sleeve tattoos, but I am able to tattoo many styles with my fine art background.

Custom means my clients give me their ideas and I craft the design to their needs with the option to tattoo in any style. As I’m not limited to drawing only one style.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Stick with it, I believe now that too many people face trials and bail out too quickly, keep your backbone, do what you set out to do and never give up. Your time will come, it’s not a race. 11 years into tattooing and I have been able to live out my dream of art, travel, and luxury.
