Today we’d like to introduce you to Spenser Chambers.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Five years ago, I was working full-time 12-hour night shifts at the hospital as a respiratory therapist. I was completely exhausted, wasn’t sleeping, and felt a constant need to create. On my days off, I would wake up early, make coffee, and journal about how I wanted my life to look. I had always wanted to become an entrepreneur of some sort and do something that filled me up creatively. As a lover of nature, portraits, and light; photography called to me.
Every morning, I would create a business plan and strategize how I would run my dream business as a photographer. Watching my two daughters grow and realizing how important those memories were and how quickly the time went by made me fixated on documenting it all. I bought my first camera and started small by taking pictures for friends and family as a side hustle while I worked my full-time hospital job. I would spend my lunch breaks researching questions I had, watching educational videos I purchased, listening to podcasts and audiobooks on long car rides, and self educated as much as I possibly could.
I felt inspired and was on a mission to hustle hard and pursue this dream I wanted to chase. The word had soon spread that I had started a photography business. With great feedback, reviews, and generous people to pass my name along, I became busier and busier. Soon after that, I decided to take a leap of faith. I invested my full self into my business along with investing in new equipment and more education to give me an edge in such a competitive space. Every year, I saw improvement. Every session, I felt fulfilled.
Today, I am a full-time wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer. I feel accomplished that I not only get to see my family more often, but I’ve also created an income that I never imagined possible for myself. I am grateful beyond belief to live and thrive in this self made dream job! Something I always kept in the back of my mind is that we as human beings are “limitless”.
I fully believe in manifesting your best life and putting in the work to make it happen. I hope I can inspire others and I am so excited for continual growth in this space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road definitely had some bumps along the way. There were a lot of self-doubts, tough moments, and hard decisions. Family and work life balance was a mess for a while. I felt burnt out and overwhelmed. I also struggled with anxiety and extreme mom guilt. I think going through all of the tough moments can be beautiful. It forces us to learn and grow from our mistakes. I accepted the fact that life was going to feel uncomfortable in that season because that’s when the change happens. When we push ourselves outside of our comfort zones, amazing things unfold. I started reading books and following other entrepreneurs to learn how to better balance my life. I confided in other artists and friends who really helped me along the way. I even got into therapy to prioritize my mental health and I feel like I am now thriving as a person and business owner. In the words of one of my role models Marie Forleo “Everything is figureoutable.”
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portraits, couples, weddings, and elopements. I like to portray more unposed moments and candid or editorial/creative shots of my subjects. I fill my sessions with a fun and laid-back demeanor to create an overall great experience for my clients. I consider myself very much as an empath and feel as if I can relate to most people to create not only art but a special relationship with each of my clients.
I would love to give a huge shoutout to my husband for being so supportive with my career shift and being there for our girls throughout all of the chaos.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Camping is my therapy. Campfire scented hoodies, dirt under the fingernails, some sweet tunes, a good book, and conversation under the stars surrounded by my people. That’s heaven.
I am super honored and very grateful for this recognition! Thank you so much!!
