Daily Inspiration: Meet Teshauna Kyles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teshauna Kyles

Hi Teshauna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a disabled Veteran and a mother of 2, one of them is Autistic. I started doing hair 2012 before I was medically discharged from the military, and I have been in love with all things hair since then. I have always been motivated to do great things and doing hair has let me do just that. I always want to make people feel good inside and out and I just made sure to find what exactly that was for me and haircare was the answer. 2 years ago I wanted to add to that, so I came out with some haircare products that does such amazing work. God, staying motivated and true to what I love, and making my kids happy is the answer to why I am here today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I still deal with the struggles of being a business owner. Being a woman, a black woman with a small business is a struggle on its own. I didn’t get and couldn’t get financial help, so I had to save what I could to make sure my business took off. Even after being in business for years, it is still a struggle to get help. Not having the support of others you thought were on your side is always a punch in the face. Social media makes it hard for a business as well because you want to try and keep up but at the same time don’t feel like you are hitting your target audience.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Loctitan and natural hair stylist, I also have my hair care products. Most of my clients are locs, I take care of locs, maintain them, repair them, install them, and just about anything in between. I don’t deal with chemicals, my goal is to make sure my client’s hair is healthy when they leave my chair, I do my best to make sure they know how to take care of their hair. I designed my hair care products because I want to make sure that you always have healthy hair and scalp, even if I am not your stylist. My goal is to donate every 3 months to people who have cancer or severe hair loss.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I just read my Bible, Bible study books, and pray. Those 3 things is what helps me get through the day and help me to stay focus.
